Job summary

Domtar Thunder Bay is seeking a Sr. Engineer, Ontario Sawmills to lead and optimize capital projects and maintenance across our three-line sawmill.

You will ensure safety standards, coordinate resources, and collaborate with operations, maintenance and contractors to deliver reliable production. This full-time permanent role reports to the General Manager Ontario Sawmills and the Engineering Manager, offering a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits and a relocation package to Thunder Bay,

Qualifications

• 5 years’ experience in related industrial manufacturing sector.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and adapt quickly to change.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
• Advanced computer skills (Autocad, MS Word and Excel).
• Knowledge of sawmill and planer mill equipment.
• Bilingual English / French is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Ensure application of highest Safety standards for all maintenance planning operations
• Plan and coordinate capital investment projects and maintenance activities; schedule manpower and shutdowns
• Maintain liaison between operations, maintenance and contractors
• Visit job site and analyze work in the field
• Verify availability of project parts, materials and tools required
• Estimate the cost of project labor and materials
• Research information for new project work and use feedback to improve plans
• Work closely with Supervisors, operators and trades

The location in Thunder Bay , Ontario , Canada , is seeking talent to fill the position of Sr. Engineer, Ontario Sawmills. This job is full-time permanent.

Domtar is seeking candidates for the position of Sr. Engineer, Projects for our flagship state of art three line stud Sawmill at Thunder Bay, Ontario. This position will also provide engineering support for our Ontario Sawmills.

The Sr. Engineer, Projects will report to the General Manager Ontario Sawmills and corporate Engineering Manager. You will work in a safe and productive manner to ensure the plant’s projects, mechanical and process control optimization systems are in place and adequately maintained to ensure a consistent product manufacturing that meets and exceeds our quality standards while minimizing production, maintenance costs and unscheduled downtime.

Your responsibilities:

• Maintain liaison between the operations, maintenance departments and contractors


• Visit the job site and analyze job in the field


• Verify the availability of project parts, materials and special tools and supplies required for execution


• Estimate the cost of project labor and materials


• Research information for new project work and utilize feedback to improve job plans


• Work closely with Supervisors, operators, and skilled trade groups


• Arrange materials and services through purchasing personnel and vendors

Ideal Profile:

• 5 years’ experience in related industrial manufacturing sector

• Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.


• Advanced computer skills i.e. Autocad, MS Word and Excel

• The salary range for this position is CAD $105,000 to $120,000 per year. Salary will commensurate with education and experience.
