Job summary

MacDonald Search Group represents a North American manufacturer seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead Canadian operations as a standalone function. The role partners with business leaders on Canadian employment legislation, compliance, employee relations, and HR governance—prioritizing a compliance-focused skillset.

The maternity contract spans 12 months with potential to become permanent based on strong performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of senior HR experience with strong knowledge of Canadian employment law.
• Ability to build scalable HR processes supporting growth, minimizing risk, and improving employee experience.
• CHRP/CHRL designation is an asset.
• Experience partnering with Payroll, Legal, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• HR Business Partnership with business leaders.
• Be the subject matter expert on Canadian employment legislation, compliance, and governance.
• Manage Employee Relations and investigations as needed.
• Develop and implement HR policies, compliance frameworks, and operational processes.
• Support workforce planning and organizational change initiatives.
• Collaborate with Payroll, HRIS, Legal, and senior leadership.

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a North American manufacturer and they are on the hunt for an experienced HR Manager to assume a standalone HR position for the Canadian operations. This role serves as a strategic HR partner to business leaders while acting as the subject matter expert on Canadian employment legislation, compliance, employee relations, and HR governance - the compliance skillset will be a priority.

You should have the following in your background to apply:

• 5+ years of senior HR experience.
• Bachelor’s degree is mandatory - in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline.
• A deep understanding of federal and provincial employment laws.
• Ability to build scalable HR processes that support business growth, minimize risk, and enhance the employee experience.
• CHRP/CHRL designation considered an asset.
• 5-10+ years of progressive HR experience.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation across multiple provinces.
• Experience supporting employee relations, investigations, workforce planning, and organizational change.
• Proven ability to develop HR policies, compliance frameworks, and operational processes.
• Experience partnering with Payroll, HRIS, Legal, and senior leadership teams.
• Strong communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
