Manages day-to-day Human Resource services for Gordon Food Service (GFS) division, Canada National or United Trimen. In partnership with local and HR leadership, coordinates best practices in employee relations, total rewards, training and development, recruitment, succession planning, and leadership development, along with building other effective tools needed by GFS management.

Location :

The successful candidate will be required to be in the office 4 days a week and should be able to travel between the GFS Milton DC and the United Trimen North York DC, as required.

Essential Functions :

  • Develops and maintains an HR / hiring plan with division leadership to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition during hiring, manages onsite interviews and final selections.
  • Oversees onboarding and orientation processes for new hires and managers.
  • Provides manager interview skills training in collaboration with Learning & Organizational Development.
  • Advises leadership on Performance Management, utilizes Workday Talent Management Suite, coaches on employee relations, and promotes an open door policy.
  • Handles employee complaints, conducts investigations, and determines appropriate actions.
  • Supports leadership development initiatives and monitors training effectiveness.
  • Ensures proper implementation of GFS compensation practices, assists with annual adjustments.
  • Supports benefits enrollment, educates employees on retirement, benefits, and wellness.
  • Implements strategies to enhance Employee Engagement.
  • Administers Workers Compensation, disability benefits, and other related processes.
  • Plans employee events to promote GFS culture.
  • Recruits, trains, and evaluates HR staff; manages performance and disciplinary actions.
  • Mentors staff and develops departmental budgets.
  • Provides HR metrics insights and performs administrative HR functions as needed.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities :

  • Strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and management principles.
  • Proficiency in English; French Canadian required in Quebec.
  • Customer service principles; active listening and communication skills.
  • Personnel management, problem-solving, cost-benefit analysis, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, apply rules, and recognize issues early.
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; HR certifications (SPHR, PHR, CHRP, CHRL) preferred.
  • Minimum five years of progressive HR experience with leadership roles or equivalent education and experience.
