Compensation : $90,000-$115,000+ per year + benefits + RRSP

Reports to : VP, HR

Education required : University Degree / Human Resource Management Certificate

Experience / Proficiency : 5 years progressive related experience

Union experience : Required

Must be able to pass controlled goods security assessment

Job Summary

The Human Resources Manager leads a team of professionals to ensure the seamless operation of HR functions. This role oversees a full range of HR services, including talent acquisition, onboarding, training and development, performance management, compensation, benefits, pension administration, employee and labor relations, organizational effectiveness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

With a hands-on leadership approach, this role drives HR strategic initiatives, aligns policies and programs with business objectives, and fosters a high-performance, engaged workplace culture.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in HR and labor relations, with at least 4 years in a management role.
  • Proven leadership in unionized manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and collective agreements.
  • Experience in coaching, mediation, negotiation, and team leadership.
  • Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Office Suite, and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to influence and build positive relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive, persona, and confidential information with tact, sensitivity and diplomacy while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Excellent project management and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation sills.
  • Demonstrated skills in mediation, negotiation, coaching and facilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Vice President, Human Resources to drive strategic initiatives, manage budgets, and ensure HR policies, programs, and initiatives align with business objectives.
  • Provide expert guidance on labor relations, including grievance resolution, collective agreement interpretation, and collective bargaining.
  • Advise management on performance management, training, development, succession planning, and organizational design.
  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and pension administration, collaborating with Finance to ensure payroll accuracy and salary forecasting.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies while driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural initiatives.
  • Serve as the designated recipient for workplace harassment and violence occurrences, facilitating resolution processes.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, company policies, and HR best practices.
  • Lead HR-related audits and reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing data-driven insights and recommendations to enhance employee engagement and retention.

Registration with the Controlled Goods Program is mandatory for any person examining, possessing or transferring controlled goods in Canada. To register with the Controlled Goods Program, you must meet the following requirements :

  • Must be either a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen.
  • Must have worked in Canada the last 5+ years.
  • Must have not left Canada for more than 6 months in the last 5 years.
  • Must be willing to pass a clean criminal background.
  • Must have at least 1 work reference and 2 personal references.
