Human Resources Generalist

Bench Brewing Company is an independent craft beverage company proudly located in the beautiful Niagara Benchlands wine region of Niagara and the Town of Lincoln.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Human Resources Generalist to join our amazing team. Reporting to our Founder & President, you will be responsible for the day-to-day aspects of human resources, including recruitment, employee relations, compliance, performance management and company culture. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys working with leadership and employees to foster a positive workplace.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Recruitment & Onboarding: In collaboration with hiring managers, oversee end-to-end hiring processes, including job postings, recruitment, interviews, reference checks and new employee onboarding.
  • Employee Relations: Act as the main point of contact for HR-related inquiries, resolving conflicts and ensuring a positive work culture.
  • Compliance & Policies: Ensure compliance with labour laws and company policies; staying current with new and future regulations and ESA updates. Manage existing & new policies, including the Bench Employee Handbook
  • Performance Management: Develop & oversee performance evaluations, feedback processes and professional development initiatives.
  • Payroll & Benefits Administration: Coordinate payroll, benefits enrollment, and employee leave management.
  • Culture & Engagement: Create and publish the monthly company newsletter and employee events calendar. Implement initiatives to boost employee satisfaction, retention and overall workplace morale.
  • HR Administration: Work with senior leadership/finance team to manage annual HR budget. Maintain employee records. Oversee accident reporting & WSIB paperwork as required.
  • Process Improvement & Innovation: Collaborate with leadership to align people and culture practices with business goals in a way that is both efficient and innovative.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • A post-secondary degree in human resources, business, or organizational development.
  • Progressive experience including at least 5 years in various HR functions.
  • Professional designation such as CHRP, CHRL or equivalents considered a strong asset.
  • High emotional intelligence/empathy with proven ability to gain trust, influence others and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience in developing and executing HR programs and processes, including the implementation of integrated HR policies in manufacturing and/or hospitality sectors is preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with employment related matters such as HR policy compliance, attendance management, disability and return to work procedures, conflict resolution, and progressive discipline.
  • Robust understanding of Health & Safety, Employment Standards, Human Rights, and other government legislation; with strong knowledge of manufacturing requirements such as WHMIS, HACCP, SOPs, GMPs.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems would be an asset.
  • Solid understanding of MS Office suite of programs, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Located in the heart of Niagara’s wine country, the Bench Brewing is located on the site of the historic Maple Grove Public School in Lincoln, Ontario. Our brewery is a place for our guests to relax, learn, and experience our amazing craft beverages.

The Bench Brewing Campus sits across eight beautiful acres of farmland and features our popular tap and tasting room, beer garden, our very own hops yard and Fieldstone at Bench Event Venue. Our property houses a beautiful Church built in 1938 that has been converted to the Fieldstone at Bench facility. It has an indoor seating capacity of approximately 80 guests and during the warmer seasons the events lawn can seat up to 225 guests.

Bench is a certified B Corporation and strives to be a leader in sustainability, having achieved a zero-wastewater footprint and Carbon Neutral certification by Radicle Climate Smart.

In January 2023, Bench Brewing and Henderson Brewing announced a long-term partnership for both brewing and selling Henderson’s core beers. Henderson Brewing Co. is located in the heart of Toronto in the hip Dundas West area as well as Henderson Brewery @YYZ in collaboration with Canadian rock band Rush. Henderson believes in making innovative and approachable beers that reflect the stories and culture of Toronto.

In April 2023, Bench Brewing acquired the Niagara Cider Company whose goal is to craft dry, flavorful, and balanced ciders using the bounty of all the fruits that Niagara and Ontario have to offer. Niagara Cider has quickly become a top selling Ontario Craft Cider brand as well as winning multiple awards for their family of ciders.
