Chief Human Resources Officer @ Fero International Inc. | Strategic HR Leadership

Fero International is a modular construction company based in Stoney Creek, Ontario. In our 300,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility that was purpose-built for modular, we design and manufacture volumetric modular buildings for diverse markets across Canada, including healthcare, education, housing, commercial and industrial. Our modular solutions reduce construction time, improve quality control, and promote sustainable building practices.

Position Overview

The HR Director is an experienced and strategic partner overseeing the operations of the Human Resources function. Reporting to the CHRO, the HR Director supports the development and execution of the HR Strategy for the organization, ensuring that HR policies and programs align with the company’s long-term goals. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities and a comprehensive understanding of HR strategy, policies and procedures, labor laws, and adaptive thinking to support a growth strategy while fostering a positive organizational culture.

Key Accountabilities

  • Actively participate in establishing long-term and short-term HR goals and strategies
  • Partner with leaders as strategic and collaborative business partner and change agent in aligning HR Strategies with the overall business goals.
  • Conducting workforce planning reviews to analyze future talent needs and capabilities.
  • Design and implement initiatives that promote a positive workplace culture and continuous improvement.
  • Develop talent strategies for recruiting and retaining top talent, including community and institutional partnerships to develop a robust pipeline of quality candidates.
  • Oversee the recruitment process across the business, supporting with critical and senior level roles, ensuring the quality of hires.
  • Analyze retention rates and implement programs to enhance employee engagement.
  • Foster a positive work environment and ensure open communication channels between employees and management.
  • Mediate escalated employee relations and labour relations disputes, address grievances, and ensure compliance with company policies, the collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and legal standards.
  • Develop and oversee the Talent Assessment and Performance Appraisal systems to evaluate talent and performance.
  • Implement training programs in keeping with the learning and development strategy to support employee development and ensure that feedback mechanisms are in place.
  • Keep up-to-date of changes in labor laws and ensure that the organization complies with all relevant regulations.
  • Ensure legal compliance and risk management throughout human resource management of policies and procedures
  • Lead the Annual Compensation Review Process for non-union staff.
  • Own, monitor and improve HR Metrics and KPI’s, related to hiring, retention, policy and initiative effectiveness and employee satisfaction
  • Collaborate with business leaders to assess training needs and implement professional development programs that foster employee growth and address skill gaps
  • Partner with senior leaders to, provide coaching and guidance to mangers and support HR functional processes
  • Lead the engagement survey roll out and all the supporting initiatives associated with increasing employee engagement and a performance-driven culture
  • Lead reward and recognition programs
  • Direct the planning and delivery of HR communications and corporate updates
  • Participate in collective bargaining process, as needed.
  • Special projects will be assigned to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the function

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or related field, with CHRL designation or equivalent certification.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in a people leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management and employee relations.
  • In-depth understanding of labour laws and human resources management best practices with experience in multiple HR disciplines (e.g. recruitment, employee development, compensation and benefits).
  • Proficiency in MS Office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting common HR Behavioural Assessments, an asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude for conciseness
  • Strong business acumen, understanding financial drivers and impacts.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and confidently with internal and external clients and stakeholders
  • Strong bias for action, a keen sense of urgency, and the ability to drive impactful results in a growing organization
  • Strong data acumen (i.e. analytical abilities to assess organizational needs and workforce trends with ability to tell a compelling story with the data)
