Job summary

Surrey Schools is seeking a Human Resources Assistant on a 12-month term assignment, reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Support Services. The HR Assistant performs a variety of administrative duties as part of the HR team, with a focus on staffing, onboarding, and information management.

This role offers a comprehensive benefits package including extended medical, vision and dental, life insurance, disability coverage, municipal pension, and 13 paid holidays.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Administrative Assistant, Office or Business Administration, Human Resources and a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Experience in staffing and recruiting in a large-scale unionized environment is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general HR support, including staffing, recruiting, and onboarding information to principals/vice-principals, managers, and employees.
  • Processes and maintains employee information in the HRIS and related applications, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with procedures.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential HR records per privacy legislation, retention schedules, and standards.
  • Generates various HR-related reports and documentation.
  • Provides information regarding standard collective agreement provisions, including staffing procedures, leaves, and benefits.
  • Provides benefits administration support and assists Disability Management Team with tasks to support absences and accommodations.
  • Processes forms, submissions, and referrals for support staff employees.
  • Backups and collaborates with HR Assistant and HR Coordinator colleagues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources Support Services, the Human Resources (HR) Assistant performs a variety of administrative duties as part of the HR team.

*This is a term assignment for 12 months*

The HR department is currently undergoing a period of transition. While this role is posted as a term assignment, there may be the potential for an extension or future opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Providesgeneral HR support, including staffing, recruiting, and onboarding information to principals/vice-principals, managers, and employees.
  • Processes and maintains employee information in the human resources information system (HRIS) and related applications, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with established procedures.
  • Maintainsaccurate and confidential HR records in accordance with privacy legislation, retention schedules, and departmental standards.
  • Generates various HR-related reports and associated documentation.
  • Providesinformation regarding standard collective agreement provisions, including staffing procedures, leaves, and benefits.
  • Provides benefits administration support and assists the Disability Management Team with administrative tasks to support employee medical absences and accommodations.
  • Processes various forms, submissions, and referrals for support staff employees.
  • Providesbackup support for and works collaboratively with HR Assistant and HR Coordinator colleagues.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
  • Certificateor diploma in Administrative Assistant, Office or Business Administration, Human Resources and a minimum of 2 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience instaffing and recruiting in a large-scale unionized environment is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal,verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to workboth collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to workeffectively in a high-volume work environment and maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skillswith the ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, and discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitmentto inclusion and belonging and building a caring and respectful workplace.
  • Advancedskills in Office 365 and HRIS, with an interest in learning new technologies.

The salary range for thisposition is$67,794 to $84,742per year with comprehensive benefits package and Municipal Pension.

Placement in the salary range is determined by an assessment of qualifications and ability to meet the key requirements of the job, and consideration of internal equity comparisons.The midpoint of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position.
