HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER

Organizational Brief

Keewatinook Okimakanak (KO) represents six First Nation communities in the Northwestern Ontario region. The communities include Deer Lake FN, Fort Severn FN, Keewaywin FN, McDowell Lake FN, North Spirit FN and Poplar Hill FN.

KO is designed to deliver comprehensive services encompassing healthcare, education, economic development, employment support, public works, financial management, and administrative assistance to the communities of Keewaytinook Okimakanak.

Position Summary and Duties

The KO Chiefs Tribal Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Human Resource Manager to join their team.

The Human Resource Manager will lead and manage all human resources (HR) functions at Keewatinook Okimakanak ensuring that HR practices align with the organization's mission and objectives. This position requires a highly organized, compassionate, and strategic individual who can foster a supportive and inclusive workplace culture.

HR Position will:

v Manage a recruitment process, from job posting to onboarding of new employees.

v Mediate and resolve conflicts ensuring a respectful and positive workplace environment and serving as a trusted point of contact for employees.

v Assess training needs and develop, implement, and monitor training programs to foster employee development.

v Ensure employees understand and adhere to organizational policies and procedures.

v Manage and guide the organization’s compensation structure and benefits programs.

v Oversee employee benefits administration and ensure employees have access to necessary support.

v Ensure compliance with employment laws, labor standards, and health and safety regulations in Ontario and the greater Canada.

v Maintain accurate HR records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive employee information.

v Assist with employee evaluations and the development of performance improvement plans.

v Promote a culture of accountability, continuous feedback, and professional growth.

Career Experience Required:

v Bachelor’s degree in field of Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field. A combination of experience and education can be considered.

v CHRP attainment is considered a strong asset.

v Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resource management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role

v Strong understanding of HR principles, employment law, and best practices.

v Proven ability to manage recruitment processes, employee relations, and performance management.

v Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

v Strong organizational and time-management skills.

v Knowledge of HR software and systems.

v Keen awareness of Indigenous culture and beliefs.

v Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
