We are recruiting for a Program Specialist, Health, Safety and Environment to join our team and help to champion and provide leadership within our Health, Safety and Environment Programs.

About Our Opportunity

Reporting to the HSE Program Manager, the Program Specialist will be responsible for developing, analyzing and reporting on statistical information within the Division, and through various operational stakeholders within the department.

This role provides analytic and administrative support to document, monitor, evaluate the corporate data using both leading and lagging indicators to provide regular updates and presentations to HSE Divisional resources and management regarding safety statistics, safety indicators and trends.

The Program Specialist is required to be able to transform raw data obtained from various systems and operational activities into reports that allow HSE and Operational Management to strategize over initiatives that further the HSE culture within the department to reduce incident frequency, severity, reoccurrence potential, and other negative impacts to DPW employees and business assets.

Primary Accountabilities

In this role, the Program Specialist:

  • Plans, develops, evaluates, promotes, and monitors new program initiatives. Promotes and develops initiatives and programs using current and emerging technology.
  • Supports the development of internal and external communications, promotions, presentations, and reports related to health and safety strategies and campaigns.
  • Prepares timely and accurate information / data with recommendations to allow senior management to make timely and effective decisions related to health and safety.
  • Synthesizing statistical, research data, and information into reports, and communications tools with recommendations made to management to support decision making.
  • Calculates, coordinates, and manipulates statistical data, by manual and computerized methods, from multiple internal and external sources and databases.
  • Deliver on small-scale or medium-scale projects by working within an established program management plan. Develop and/or deliver plans for internal communication with guidance from senior colleagues and team members.

Qualifications And Experience

Success in this position requires a combination of self-motivation and a genuine interest in the health and safety of others. Ability to work independently and as part of a team are keys to the candidate’s success. Creativity is a must!

The position requires a relevant post-secondary degree with a minimum of 5 years of related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Experience working with databases and online reporting systems is required. A high level of proficiency in standard MS Platforms (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Power Point, Lists, etc.) is also a requirement of the position and should be detailed through the application process.

The position requires exceptional communication and relationship building skills to effectively work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to achieve division objectives.

Other Characteristics That Would Be Considered Assets Include

  • Previous experience in health and safety or injury prevention
  • Pervious experience in communications and marketing (print, online, digital)
  • Previous experience working in other technologies and platforms including SAP, Canva, Tableau, Enterprise, MS Power Apps, MS Power Bi, would be considered an asset as it would be a requirement of the role moving forward.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:

  • A related diploma and seven (7) years of related experience.

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,556.10 - $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
