Job description

The HSE Superintendent is responsible for the effective implementation of the HSE management system (MS), standards, policies, and processes for assigned rigs. This role drives ownership, responsibility, and accountability for HSE culture, and communicates effectively to ensure consistent implementation and compliance with the HSE MS. The position involves real-time tracking and trending of HSE leading and lagging indicators to support short and long-term strategic planning. The HSE Superintendent champions HSE initiatives to continuously drive Target Zero.

THIS POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR RED DEER HSE OPERATIONS - TRAVEL IS REQUIRED

Essential Job Functions:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the company's safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Possesses proficient knowledge of OH&S regulations, PWS standards, and industry best practices.
  • Provides technical and regulatory HSE support and makes recommendations for effective compliance.
  • Demonstrates active leadership through role modeling and coaching managers, supervisors, and crews.
  • Ensures critical processes are assessed and controlled.
  • Ensures core HSE fundamentals (risk and hazard assessment, observations, step back and stop work, incident investigation/management) are implemented, monitored, reviewed, and discussed.
  • Regularly monitors and discusses real-time HSE performance, advising the business to proactively identify and address gaps.
  • Facilitates and participates in hazard and risk assessments.
  • Conducts regular hazard hunts with crews, compiling summaries and action items.
  • Conducts regular rig visits to coach and facilitate implementation of HSE standards and policies.
  • Assists and monitors compliance with SSE processes.
  • Engages and supports incident investigations, ensuring proper identification of root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensures all HSE incidents, including near misses and stop works, are reported timely.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and verifies the use of required HSE controls and PPE.
  • Ensures all employees complete required HSE training per the training matrix.
  • Ensures Emergency Response Systems and Plans are implemented and participated in required drills.
  • Assists with the implementation of customer bridging documents as required.

This role requires the ability to react productively to change and undertake other tasks as assigned.

Working Conditions:
  • 85% field-based
  • 15% office-based
  • Working outdoors in various temperatures and elements
  • Rotating on-call schedule
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum 10 years of cumulative experience in the oil and gas industry, with service rigs preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
  • Critical thinking capabilities, including data and analytics.
  • Ability to work effectively under high pressure and in critical situations.
  • Willingness to work in various inclement weather conditions.
  • Previous experience in coaching and mentoring others.
  • High level of personal integrity and ethics.
Education and Experience:
  • Safety Tickets: H2S, First Aid, WHMIS, Fall Arrest, Rig Rescue.
  • Grade 12 or GED.
  • Preference given to candidates with 5+ years in a wellsite leadership position as a Driller and/or Rig Manager.

Precision Well Servicing is responsible for well completions, workovers, and abandonments, using a variety of service rigs suited to each scope of work. Wells are located in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, including Northern BC, Northwest Territories, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
