Job summary

Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd seeks an experienced HSE Advisor for Prince Rupert, BC. This is a 12-month Fly-In Fly-Out contract with company-paid travel and accommodations, working on a major project to promote health, safety, and environmental excellence.

The HSE Advisor will monitor compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, support incident investigations, lead training, and coordinate with management, supervisors, and subcontractors to deliver a safe, efficient project.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in industrial/construction settings.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and best practices.
  • Experience in incident investigations, inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Ability to influence and coach others and work independently on site.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support a positive HSE culture across project activities.
  • Maintain safety records, incident statistics, regulatory documentation and compliance tracking.
  • Review safety documentation and provide guidance for improvement.
  • Lead site orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

VanPile is seeking an experienced and dedicated HSE Advisor to support a major project in Prince Rupert, BC. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting people, promoting a strong safety culture, and supporting the successful delivery of a high-profile industrial construction project.

This position is offered on a 12-month contract and follows a fly-in, fly-out rotation of 14 days on and 7 days off, with company-paid travel and accommodations provided throughout the assignment.

About the Role

The HSE Advisor is a critical member of the project team, responsible for promoting, monitoring, and supporting compliance with health, safety, and environmental programs on site. Working closely with project management, supervisors, employees, and subcontractors, you will help ensure that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Your leadership and expertise will contribute directly to the protection of our workforce, the environment, and the successful execution of the project.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Promote and support a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across all project activities.
  • Maintain and manage safety records, incident statistics, regulatory documentation, and compliance tracking.
  • Review safety documentation and provide guidance, coaching, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Support project planning activities by ensuring HSE requirements are identified and incorporated into work plans.
  • Conduct site orientations for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and training sessions.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, client requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine site inspections, audits, hazard assessments, and field observations.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Keep project leadership informed of HSE concerns that may affect project performance or operations.
  • Promote proactive hazard identification and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and preparedness activities.
  • Support COR compliance initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
Qualifications & Requirements

We're looking for a safety professional who brings:

  • Minimum 5 years of HSE experience in industrial, heavy civil, marine, energy, or construction environments.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and industry best practices.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and coach others.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative project team.
  • Willingness to work rotational schedules and remote project assignments.
Skills, Certifications & Attributes

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A recognized safety designation such as CRSP, RCSO, CHSC, CSS, CIH, ROH, or equivalent.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 3 certification, or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with BCCSA COR certification programs and auditing processes.
  • High personal, professional, and ethical standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • A proactive, positive, and solutions-focused approach to workplace health and safety.

Competitive Compensation

$55 - $68 per hour

Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, internal equity, and Carlson Construction Group compensation practices.
