Qualifications

  • 3+ years in an HSE/Safety role within construction or heavy industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario OH&S legislation and construction safety requirements.
  • Experience conducting inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Experience delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, and worker competency programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections, workplace observations, and audits to identify hazards and verify compliance.
  • Support the implementation of PSSPs, ERPs, SWPs, JSAs/JHAs, inspections, toolbox talks, and HSE documentation.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and communicate corrective actions, ensuring timely follow-up.

## HSE AdvisorApply: Hamilton, ON: Full time: Posted Yesterday: R10314**Come help build the future, where our work makes the world work!****SUMMARY**Reporting on the ON West HSE Manager, the HSE Advisor is responsible for supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of GIP’s Health, Safety and Environmental programs across assigned construction projects.This role exists to provide strong field-level HSE support, identify and control workplace hazards, support incident prevention and investigation, and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, company standards, and project requirements. The HSE Advisor works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, workers, and the HSE team to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure safe execution of construction activities.You will be responsible for providing day-to-day HSE support to project teams, conducting field inspections and observations, supporting incident investigations and corrective actions, delivering and coordinating safety training, and helping project leadership identify and manage HSE risks.**PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE****FIELD HSE SUPPORT & COMPLIANCE*** Conduct regular site inspections, workplace observations, and audits to identify hazards and verify compliance with legislation, company requirements, project-specific plans, and safe work practices.* Support project teams with the implementation of PSSPs, ERPs, SWPs, JSAs/JHAs, inspections, toolbox talks, and other required HSE documentation.* Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours, communicate required corrective actions, and follow up to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.* Provide practical HSE guidance to supervisors, forepersons, workers, and subcontractors on site-specific hazards and controls.* Monitor higher-risk activities and assist project teams with developing and implementing effective controls before work begins.**INCIDENT PREVENTION, INVESTIGATION & FOLLOW-UP*** Support the reporting, investigation, and documentation of incidents, near misses, property damage, environmental events, and other HSE occurrences.* Analyze incidents and trends to identify direct and root causes and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.* Track corrective actions through completion and communicate outstanding items to project and HSE leadership.* Support the development and delivery of Safety Alerts, lessons learned, toolbox talks, and other communications based on incident trends and identified risks.* Participate in the identification and management of high-potential incidents and ensure appropriate escalation to HSE leadership.**TRAINING, COMMUNICATION & ENGAGEMENT*** Coordinate and support required HSE training, orientations, competency assessments, and refresher training for employees and project teams.* Deliver or support toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and targeted training based on project activities and identified risks.* Communicate HSE expectations, regulatory requirements, hazards, and corrective actions clearly to workers and supervisors.* Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Forepersons, and workers to strengthen safety ownership and encourage proactive hazard reporting.* Maintain accurate HSE records and provide regular updates to the HSE Manager and project leadership on key activities, trends, and outstanding concerns.**HSE PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT & RISK MANAGEMENT*** Identify opportunities to improve HSE processes, field practices, documentation, and overall safety performance.* Analyze inspection, incident, training, and other HSE data to identify trends and recommend appropriate actions.* Support the implementation and continuous improvement of company and project HSE programs, procedures, and standards.* Ensure project teams understand and apply applicable Ontario occupational health and safety, environmental, and construction requirements.* Support the preparation and review of project-specific HSE documentation and assist with pre-start planning for new projects and activities.**POSITION REQUIREMENTS*** 3+ years of experience in an HSE/Safety role, preferably within the construction, civil construction, infrastructure, or heavy industrial environment.* Strong working knowledge of Ontario occupational health and safety legislation, construction safety requirements, and applicable regulations.* Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective-action follow-up.* Experience supporting or delivering safety orientations, toolbox talks, training, and worker competency programs.* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with project management, supervisors, forepersons, workers, and subcontractors.* Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple project requirements, and provide practical solutions in a fast-paced field environment.* Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital HSE management systems; experience with incident, inspection, training, and document-management platforms is an asset.* Valid Ontario G driver’s license and reliable access to transportation, with the ability to travel regularly between assigned project sites. Driver’s license or any specific certification requirements.**WHAT WE OFFER*** Expected Base Salary: $70.000 - $80.000 per year.
