Job summary

Ledcor Group in Calgary, AB seeks an HS&E Advisor to execute health and safety programs for telecommunications projects. You will develop Job Hazard Analyses and Safe Work Practices, supporting operations to meet Ledcor Leading Indicator requirements.

Join our team to provide safety guidance, training, and continuous HS&E improvement across projects while collaborating with field teams and project leadership.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in construction or telecom safety role.
  • Safety certificates and training credentials preferred.
  • Knowledge of common construction practices and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate to hourly workforce and management.
  • Proactive safety approach with issue identification and resolution.
  • Experience with risk assessment, program development, training, and incident investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections with field supervisors to discuss hazards.
  • Ensure safety equipment and environmental controls are available.
  • Provide field advisory on HS&E issues and conduct site orientations.
  • Collaborate to develop, revise, and implement procedures and standards.
  • Educate and mentor field supervisors on program implementation.
  • Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Verify HS&E plans and hazard assessments are up-to-date with scope changes.
  • Assist incident investigations and support corrective actions.
  • Monitor effectiveness of HS&E plan implementation.
  • Audit field hazard assessments and incident reports for accuracy.
  • Support site safety meetings and toolbox talks preparation.

Job description

You are an HS&E Advisor, who plays a key role in the execution and implementation of a diverse range of health and safety programs for Telecommunication projects. You will develop and enhance Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents based on existing materials as well as support operations personnel to meet Ledcor “Leading Indicator” requirements. You are a problem solver, a strong communicator and continuously look for innovative solutions that can be utilized to support projects. You are skilled at leveraging relationships with operational teams to drive continuous HS&E improvement.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of the work area and meet with field supervisors to discuss any potential problems:
  • help to ensure the adequate supply of safety equipment, such as protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respirators, etc., monitor environmental hazards, such as excessive noise, toxic agents
  • Provide field supervisors and employees with services and advice on HS&E related issues, conduct site safety orientation for new employees and internal HS&E related training where required
  • Collaborate with the HS&E manager and HS&E coordinators across LTS to assist in the development, revision and implementation of procedures, standards, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide education and mentoring to field supervisors on program implementation
  • Build and maintain a trusting relationship with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Verify that the HS&E plans, safe work processes and hazard assessments are current and updated as the scope of work changes and support site leadership with look ahead planning
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents to determine causation and support the site leadership in the development of measurable corrective actions and monitoring for continuous improvement within the area of influence
  • Monitor and report on the overall effectiveness of the overall implementation of project HS&E plans
  • Audit the quality of the field level hazard assessments and incident investigation reports for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide support to site leadership in the preparation of site-specific material for safety meetings and toolbox talks
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of related work experience in construction or telecommunications safety role. Strong consideration would be given to candidates with Telecom experience
  • Certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety.
  • CRSP, CSO or NCSO designation is considered an asset
  • Has developed technical knowledge of common construction practices, techniques, and equipment
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to the hourly workforce, while also effectively interacting with project management staff, clients, and customers
  • Ability to provide a proactive approach to safety, to include identification of operational and organizational issues, as well as develop and implement strategies to solve them
  • Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, program development, safety & health training, and accident investigation
  • Strong computer competency including experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Capable of adapting information/style to the audience, explaining difficult information clearly, influencing and persuading others towards consensus agreement in straightforward situations
  • A strong team player attitude with the ability to effectively adjust to changing priorities and demands
  • Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver’s license and driver’s abstract
Work Conditions
  • Travel will be required throughout southern Alberta
  • This role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions
