Job summary

Ledcor Technical Services (LTS) is seeking an experienced HS&E professional to lead safety oversight in Alberta construction/telecom projects. You will coordinate inspections, provide field safety orientation, and mentor supervisors on program implementation.

Travel across southern Alberta and outdoor work are required. The role emphasizes risk assessment, training, incident investigations, and collaboration with a cross-functional HS&E team to maintain safe, compliant worksites.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in construction or telecom safety role.
• Certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety.
• CRSP/CSO/NCSO designation is an asset.
• Ability to communicate with hourly workforce and management.
• Proactive safety approach to identify issues and implement solutions.
• Experience in risk assessment, program development, safety training and incident investigation.
• Strong computer skills: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• Ability to adapt information to audience and influence others.
• Team player with flexibility to changing priorities.
• Valid provincial driver’s license and driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of the work area and meet with field supervisors to discuss safety issues and ensure supply of PPE.
• Provide HS&E services and site safety orientation for new employees and training as required.
• Collaborate with HS&E team to develop, revise and implement procedures and rules; mentor field supervisors.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Verify HS&E plans and hazard assessments are current with scope changes and assist with look-ahead planning.
• Assist investigations to determine causation and develop corrective actions for continuous improvement.
• Monitor overall effectiveness and report on site HS&E plan implementation.
• Audit field hazard assessments and incident investigation reports for accuracy.
• Support site leadership in safety meetings and toolbox talks.

Essential Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of the work area and meet with field supervisors to discuss any potential problems: help to ensure the adequate supply of safety equipment, such as protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respirators, etc., monitor environmental hazards, such as excessive noise, toxic agents
• Provide field supervisors and employees with services and advice on HS&E related issues, conduct site safety orientation for new employees and internal HS&E related training where required
• Collaborate with the HS&E manager and HS&E coordinators across LTS to assist in the development, revision and implementation of procedures, standards, rules, and regulations. Provide education and mentoring to field supervisors on program implementation
• Build and maintain a trusting relationship with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
• Verify that the HS&E plans, safe work processes and hazard assessments are current and updated as the scope of work changes and support site leadership with look ahead planning
• Assist in the investigation of incidents to determine causation and support the site leadership in the development of measurable corrective actions and monitoring for continuous improvement within the area of influence
• Monitor and report on the overall effectiveness of the overall implementation of project HS&E plans
• Audit the quality of the field level hazard assessments and incident investigation reports for accuracy and completeness
• Provide support to site leadership in the preparation of site-specific material for safety meetings and toolbox talks

Qualifications

• 3+ years of related work experience in construction or telecommunications safety role. Strong consideration would be given to candidates with Telecom experience
• Certificate or diploma in occupational health and safety. CRSP, CSO or NCSO designation is considered an asset
• Has developed technical knowledge of common construction practices, techniques, and equipment
• Ability to effectively communicate and present information to the hourly workforce, while also effectively interacting with project management staff, clients, and customers
• Ability to provide a proactive approach to safety, to include identification of operational and organizational issues, as well as develop and implement strategies to solve them
• Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, program development, safety & health training, and accident investigation
• Strong computer competency including experience with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Capable of adapting information/style to the audience, explaining difficult information clearly, influencing and persuading others towards consensus agreement in straightforward situations
• A strong team player attitude with the ability to effectively adjust to changing priorities and demands
• Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver's license and driver's abstract

Work Conditions

• Travel will be required throughout southern Alberta
• This role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions
