We believe great companies are built through understanding — understanding our customers, our products, and our people. About the Role

Do you want to run the engine room of a People team, so payroll is right every cycle in two countries and the HR system holds data leaders trust? In this role you’ll own end-to-end payroll for about 200 employees across British Columbia, Washington and Oregon. You’ll also be our Rippling expert and keep us compliant with employment standards, workers’ compensation and recordkeeping rules. You’ll report directly to our Chief People Officer and work with Finance, the HR team and our Information Team. This isn’t a generalist advisor role. You won’t handle investigations or coach managers. You’ll be the expert on the systems, numbers and rules everyone else relies on. You won’t be left to figure it out alone, and you’ll have real room to build better processes with automation and AI. Apply today and grow your career with Klassen.

Pay & Schedule
  • Salary: $85,000–$100,000/year, based on experience
  • Profit sharing (K-Bucks): 5–20% target, paid quarterly. That’s an illustrative $4,250–$20,000/year, for total earnings of about $89,000–$120,000/year
  • Job type: Full-time, Permanent

  • Life insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): confidential counselling and support for you and your family
  • Sick days
  • Support for professional development, including the PCP and CPM payroll designations
  • Annual $300 boot allowance, for your site visits
  • Long-term stability with a growing, family-owned company
  • Person-to-person support: your manager knows your name, and someone picks up the phone
  • Opportunities for career growth as we build out our HR systems and infrastructure
Key Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Run end-to-end payroll for salaried, hourly and driver employees in BC, Washington and Oregon
  • Process hours, vacation and statutory pay, deductions, ROEs, T4s and W-2s
  • Manage CRA and state remittances and filings, year-end, and GL reconciliation with Finance

  • Make the system do more so people do less

Compliance

  • Keep pay and records compliant with BC Employment Standards, Washington and Oregon wage-and-hour, paid-leave and payroll-tax rules, privacy law and recordkeeping requirements
  • Spot risk before it becomes a problem
  • Manage WorkSafeBC, Washington L&I and Oregon workers’ comp employer accounts: payroll reporting, premiums, claim forms and wage data

  • Prepare the data for pay transparency reporting

Automation

  • Use Make.com, automation tools and AI to remove manual work from HR and payroll processes
Requirements
  • 5+ years in payroll and HR operations, owning payroll end to end (not only processing it)
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, CRA requirements and BC Employment Standards
  • Experience with WorkSafeBC or other workers’ compensation employer accounts and claims administration
  • Advanced HRIS/payroll system skills
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills
  • US payroll experience, ideally Washington or Oregon, strongly preferred

  • Comfortable with automation tools and AI, and curious about making them work
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Able to work on-site in Abbotsford and travel occasionally to other Klassen sites
Who We Are Looking For
  • Motivated and dependable: someone who takes ownership of their day
  • Careful and precise. You like data being right, and you catch the error before it goes out
  • Discreet and trustworthy with confidential employee and pay information
  • A builder, not just a processor. You see a manual task and want to fix the process behind it
  • Comfortable working independently and communicating proactively with Finance, HR and leadership
  • Looking for a long-term opportunity with a stable, growing company, not a short-term or transitional position

Every day, our team lives The Klassen Promise: to Create Value and Lead the Market, with Quality as our edge. If that’s how you approach your work (getting every pay run right, doing it right, and taking pride in the finish), we want to hear from you.
