Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic HR Generalist to join our MDPI Toronto office. This stand-alone role will be an integral part of our regional HR team, reporting directly to the HR Manager Europe & North America. This role is crucial in supporting the office's growth and ensuring smooth HR operations, including managing employee onboarding processes, conducting recruitment efforts, maintaining accurate employee records, facilitating communication between departments, and more.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding new employees. Work closely with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and ensure the timely hiring of qualified candidates.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and benefits. Address and resolve employee concerns and issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and advise management on necessary actions.
  • Performance Management: Assist in the development and implementation of performance management processes. Support managers in conducting performance reviews and managing employee development plans.
  • HR Administration: Maintain employee records, prepare HR reports, and manage HR documentation. Oversee employee benefits administration and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and coordinate training programs to enhance employee skills and performance. Promote continuous learning and professional development within the office.
  • HR Projects: Participate in regional HR projects and initiatives as required. Collaborate with the regional HR team to align local HR practices with global HR strategies.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in an HR Generalist role or a similar position, with a focus on recruitment, preferably in a stand-alone capacity.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of Canadian labor laws and HR best practices. Familiarity with payroll processes and collaboration with payroll providers.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities. Knowledge of HR systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Attributes: Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Certification: CHRP or CHRL designation is preferred but not required.
