Job summary

Emterra Group is seeking an HR Coordinator to support employees and operations across Ontario waste and recycling sites. You will partner with managers on HR initiatives, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, safety, and AI-enabled HR tools to improve efficiency and experience.

The role requires strong communication, Ontario HR knowledge, and ability to travel across sites, with a focus on a proactive, inclusive workplace culture.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Human Resources is required.
  • 1–2 years’ experience in Human Resources is required.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR best practices.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word; Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in AI related concepts is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Ability to travel within local Ontario facilities (≈30%).
  • Experience in waste management, transportation or manufacturing is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted HR business partner across Ontario sites and support a respectful, inclusive workplace.
  • Support workforce planning, onboarding, labour relations, and retention strategies.
  • Conduct site visits to build relationships with frontline employees and ensure consistent HR policy application.
  • Advise on employment legislation, accommodation, attendance, and labour law matters.
  • Assist in performance management, employee engagement, and succession planning.
  • Develop and deliver training, orientation, leadership development, and health & safety programs.
  • Promote AI-enabled HR systems and data reporting for efficiency.
  • Maintain confidential HR records and reporting in compliance with policies.
  • Investigate workplace issues impartially and implement solutions.
  • Participate in HR projects focused on DEI and organizational excellence.
  • Prepare reports and provide HR data-driven recommendations.
  • Prepare accommodation letters, performance materials, and policy updates.
  • Communicate with employees, managers, unions, and stakeholders to foster collaboration.
  • Travel to Ontario sites as needed.

Job Summary

As an HR Coordinator, you will play a key role in supporting employees and operations across multiple waste and recycling sites in Ontario. This hands‑on position requires a proactive and adaptable professional who is comfortable working in both office and field environments, partnering with managers and frontline teams on a broad range of human resources initiatives including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, health and safety, workforce engagement, and the adoption of AI-enabled HR tools and processes to improve efficiency and employee experience.

Position Description
  • Act as a trusted HR business partner and primary resource for employees and managers across multiple waste and recycling operations throughout Ontario, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture.
  • Collaborate with site leadership to support workforce planning, onboarding, employee and labour relations, and retention strategies that promote equity, accessibility, and belonging for both field and corporate teams.
  • Conduct regular site visits to operational facilities to build strong relationships with frontline employees, provide hands‑on HR support, and ensure the fair and consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and company values.
  • Provide guidance on employment legislation, workplace compliance, accommodation practices, attendance management, and Ontario labour laws, including Collective Bargaining Agreements where applicable.
  • Support performance management, employee engagement, succession planning, and workforce development initiatives that encourage continuous growth, psychological safety, and inclusive leadership practices.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training programs, new hire orientation, leadership development, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and health & safety programs across operational sites.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing use of AI-enabled HR systems, reporting tools, and process improvements while promoting ethical, equitable, and people‑focused HR practices.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HR documentation, and reporting in compliance with company policies, privacy standards, and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct workplace investigations, employee consultations, and conflict resolution processes in a professional, unbiased, and solutions‑focused manner.
  • Participate in HR projects and continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational excellence, employee engagement, accessibility, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Research HR trends, analyze workforce data, prepare reports, and provide recommendations that support strategic decision‑making and inclusive people practices.
  • Prepare and manage HR‑related documentation including accommodation letters, performance management materials, attendance management documentation, policy updates, and employee communications.
  • Facilitate clear communication and meaningful collaboration with employees, managers, union representatives, and stakeholders to support an inclusive, respectful, and productive work environment.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Travel Required: Regular travel to operational sites across Ontario is required.

Salary - $55,000 - $60,000
