Job summary

The Mustard Seed Society is seeking a Housing Focused Shelter Worker - Morning in Medicine Hat. The role provides housing-focused supports to shelter guests, connecting them with internal and external resources to help them exit the shelter sustainably.

You will conduct intake, maintain daily check-ins, document interactions, and support participants toward short- and long-term housing goals. This fixed-term position runs Tue–Sat, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., reporting to Shelter Manager.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience with a marginalized population.
• Experience in case management and advocacy is considered an asset.
• Experience working within the culture of the inner city and/or with the less fortunate.
• Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Self-starter capable of working effectively within a cross-functional team.
• Desire to end homelessness in Alberta is essential.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact and promote dignity, kindness, and equity.
• Respond to crises with de-escalation and safety planning.
• Use case management tools to help shelter participants set housing goals.
• Maintain a 3-4 caseload and document interactions in HMIS/FDARP.
• Enforce shelter rules and provide conflict resolution.
• Assist with meals, housekeeping, and shelter operations.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers and participate in training.
• Collect data in CCMS/HMIS and submit incident reports.
• Maintain privacy and FOIP/HIA compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
