Job summary

Coast Calgary Downtown Hotel & Suites by APA seeks a dedicated team member to fill a combined Housekeeping Supervisor and Room Attendant role. You will ensure rooms and public areas meet Coast standards, perform daily inspections, and support the supervisor with workflow and safety compliance.

The position requires 2+ years in housekeeping or hospitality, plus secondary education and hospitality training. Ability to lift and stand for long periods is essential; flexible scheduling including

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in housekeeping roles or related hospitality position.
• Post-secondary education in hospitality preferred; courses in hotel operations advantageous.
• Ability to lift, push and pull at least 25 pounds; stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of guest rooms and public areas to Coast Hotels standards.
• Inspect rooms using daily checklist; report issues and complete maintenance requests.
• Coordinate with Housekeeping Supervisor on assignments and priorities.
• Ensure safety, hygiene, and quality standards; adhere to WHMIS requirements.
• Flexibly cover housekeeping tasks including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Assist with room setup and turnover to ensure guest satisfaction.

This is a hybrid role with Housekeeping Supervisor responsibilities as well as Room Attendant responsibilities.

This role will assist the Housekeeping Manager in the efficient operation of the Housekeeping Department. This position will be responsible for ensuring that the Coast Hotels cleaning standards for all guest and public areas of the hotel are consistently adhered to. This position will also be responsible for maintaining a positive work environment in the Housekeeping area while maintaining high internal/external customer service standards.

• Ensures the overall cleanliness, detailing, servicing, care and maintenance of all guest rooms and public areas
• Uses the Daily Checklist to conduct daily room inspections, and files completed checklists before the end of each shift
• Ensures a safe work environment is maintained at all times and that all Housekeeping team members are committed to working safely, including WHMIS training, certification, and emergency preparedness
• Ensures rooms are set up according to established standards prior to the guest arrival
• Completes and follows up on all repair and maintenance work orders forwarded to the Maintenance department
• Issues daily work assignments and special instructions to the Housekeeping Team
• Cleans guest rooms and public areas when needed
• Conducts end of shift inspections to ensure that public areas are in compliance with established standards
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper
• Reviews and discusses room assignment sheet with Housekeeping Supervisor at the beginning of every shift
• Is committed to working safely, including adherence to safety regulations, hygiene and cleanliness
• Follows Coast Hotels procedures for the cleaning and making up of rooms
• Changes linens in assigned guest rooms according to established policies and procedures
• Ensures that all room amenities are in place, and that all drapes, sheers, windows and balcony doors are closed and locked prior to room completion.
• Conducts daily inspections of assigned rooms for deficiencies and immediately completes work orders for the maintenance department
• Conducts room checks and informs Housekeeping of any discrepancies
• Turns in all lost & found items to the Housekeeping Office immediately upon leaving an assigned floor
• Ensures that the housekeeping cart is fully supplied, and that all needed supplies and equipment are in good working order
• Sorts recyclable items according to Coast Hotels recycling program guidelines
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in similar position required
• Successful completion of secondary education required
• Post-secondary education in hospitality, with completed courses in hotel management preferred
• Physical requirements include ability to lift, push and pull a minimum of 25 pounds, ability to stand and / or walk for an extended period of time, ability to stoop, kneel and reach, or perform repetitive foot and hand action, and the ability to bend at the waist is required
• Self‑motivated team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, multi‑tasking, multi‑functional team environment
• Demonstrated superior customer service philosophy
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills
