Responsibilities

  • Receive assignments and prepare materials for duties.

  • Prepare rooms for new occupants.
  • Notify supervisor when supplies are low or equipment issues arise.
  • Sort and wash laundry, deliver to appropriate units.
  • Adhere to safety, infection control and quality policies.
  • Cross-train to perform Dietary Aide activities as needed.

The Housekeeping & Laundry Aide reports to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and laundry services throughout the home. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishings in assigned work areas, as well as sorting, washing, drying, folding, and delivering linen and residents’ personal clothing in accordance with established policies and procedures. A major part of the role is to actively involve residents in everyday domestic living, creating meaningful opportunities for occupation, engagement, and participation in daily activities.

Wage Rate:

The starting wage rate is $24.13/hour.

Responsibilities
  • Receives assignment, assembles required materials and supplies, loads service cart and transports to work area.

  • Using specified cleaning/disinfecting/sanitizing agents and following specific procedures, work patterns and routines, performs tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/disinfecting floors, spot cleaning walls, windows and doors between washing, dusting, washing, sanitizing/disinfecting furniture, shelves, woodwork, etc., emptying waste baskets and rearranging furniture, removing waste, daily cleaning and disinfecting daily all bathroom fixtures and replenishing supplies, cleaning floors, fixtures and furnishings in utility rooms, kitchen closets, etc.

  • Ensures the privacy of residents during performance of duties.

  • Respects privacy, dignity and promotes confidentiality within a warm, homely setting.

  • Prepares room for new occupants following prescribed procedures.

  • Notifies the manager when supplies are low, or equipment is malfunctioning.

  • Returns unused supplies and cleans and stores equipment.

  • Receives laundry and sorts according to type, condition and weight. Follows specific instructions for treatment of soiled linens. Separates loads according to classification.

  • Washes and dries laundry following instructions for machine operations, designated washing and drying times, etc. Sorts personal clothing or puts aside for repairs or ironing. Folds laundry as required, and sorts and delivers to appropriate units.

  • Adheres to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality management, safety, environment and infection control.

  • Participates in cross-training to perform Dietary Aide activities, as required by the organization. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness and availability to participate in cross-training and to obtain and maintain any required training, certifications, or credentials necessary to perform Dietary Aide duties.

  • May be required to perform Dietary Aide activities as part of the cross-trained role, including duties within the scope of applicable training, credentials, policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in the Job Task Inventory

Qualifications

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

  • Basic understanding of washer and dryer operations and some knowledge of chemicals used in the process.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to work from the heart and make others smile

  • Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions

  • To show evidence of being focused on people’s feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.

  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals’ rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.

  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one

  • As a condition of employment, candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing (within the last six months or within 14 days upon hire) or a chest X-ray (within the last year), as per Public Health requirements

  • Two supervisory references required

  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
