Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.

We are currently seeking a Housekeeping Coordinator to join our Facility Services team. Under the direction of the Deputy Director, Facility Services the incumbent will coordinate and monitor the daily work of cleaning staff and ensures daily assignments are completed based on AGO standards as outlined by department manager.

The rate of pay for this position is $27.38 - $34.20 per hour

What is this position responsible for?

  • Supervises the work of Maintenance Worker I cleaning staff. Evaluates daily cleaning requirements and available resources. Prioritizes, reassigns tasks and serves as a Maintenance Worker I as needed to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Consults with banquet managers and programming staff to address last minute changes to set up and cleaning requirements, identify immediate needs and solve conflicting demands.
  • Conducts regular inspections of all public and back of house spaces as required. Ensures public spaces are ready for visitors and standard setups are in place. Reports broken or damaged equipment and finishes in public and back of house spaces, consulting with appropriate departments as required.
  • Assist with training staff in proper procedures and policies.
  • Monitors Facility Services supplies, equipment, inventory levels and general conditions. Reports inventory needs to departmental assistant and other issues of concern to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in a supervisory role
  • Must be able to work weekends and/or nights shifts
  • Hands-on experience with cleaning and maintenance tasks for large, diverse facility
  • Demonstrated organizational, inter-personal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Ability to use good judgement and decision making skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Practical “can do” attitude and ability to learn new tasks
  • Working knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and products.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for safe handling of chemical solutions used for cleaning. Knowledge of safe material handling practices
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Experience in operating elevated work platform and other lifting equipment
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act including rights and responsibilities of workers and supervisors
