Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Housekeeping Aide for Squamish Hospital in Squamish, BC, supporting Hilltop House. The role performs cleaning tasks including dusting, mopping, disinfecting patient areas, waste handling and bed making, ensuring a safe, hygienic environment in line with organizational policies.

Ideal candidates have Grade 10 education, good communication skills, physical fitness, and the ability to work collaboratively within Environmental Services to protect patients, staff

Responsibilities

  • Damp dusting, dry/wet mopping and floor maintenance.
  • Clean and disinfect ceilings, walls, washrooms, beds and equipment.
  • Regular and biomedical waste collection and removal; spill clean‑up.
  • Bed-making and maintaining overall cleanliness per policies.
  • Support hospital environmental services to maintain safe areas.

Job Summary

Come work as a Housekeeping Aide with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Housekeeping team at Squamish Hospital in Squamish, BC and supporting Hilltop House!

The Housekeeping Aide performs a variety of cleaning duties such as but not limited to damp dusting; dry and wet mopping of floors; floor maintenance and refinishing using appropriate equipment; cleaning & disinfecting ceiling, wall, vent, washroom, bed, furniture and equipment; regular and biomedical waste collection and removal; spill clean-up; bed-making; and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility according to organizational policies, procedures and routines.

About Environmental Services with VCH

Many people are familiar with the terms 'janitorial' or 'housekeeping' but these terms don't necessarily encompass all their responsibilities. Rather, the role of Environmental Services is to work with hospital staff to keep employees, patients and visitors safe with proper medical cleaning and disinfecting. Environmental Services works closely with infection control and patient care teams to clean and disinfect clinical and non-clinical areas, including patient care rooms, offices, washrooms and common areas. They also remove garbage, recycling, soiled linen and bio-hazard waste, vacuum carpets, clean and polish floors and disinfect walls and beds, among other duties.

Closing Statement

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
