Job summary

Steele Hotels is seeking part-time and full-time Housekeepers for The Capital Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate will display a positive attitude, professionalism, and a strong work ethic while adapting to fast-paced environments and varying shifts.

Responsibilities include cleaning rooms and bathrooms, dusting and mopping, changing linens, replenishing supplies, and following safety protocols. Light laundry duties may be required; flexibility for weekends and holidays is expected.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a housekeeper preferred.
• Criminal Record Screening Certificate required.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment.
• Ability to work under pressure and follow instructions.

• Clean, sanitize, and maintain hotel rooms and bathrooms.
• Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean windows.
• Change bed linens and towels, replace with clean items.
• Empty trash and replenish supplies in guest rooms and on carts.
• Handle cleaning chemicals safely and report maintenance issues.
• Possibly assist with laundry duties.
• Demonstrate professional presentation to guests and colleagues.

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John’s, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for Part-time and Full-time Housekeepers to join its growing team at The Capital Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive “can-do” attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or evening.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

• Clean, sanitize, and maintain assigned areas, including hotel rooms and bathrooms, following cleaning protocols
• Dust furniture, sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpets, and clean windows
• Change bed linens and towels, checking for any wear, tear, or stains, replacing with clean linens and towels
• Empty trash and dispose of waste properly
• Replenish essential supplies such as toiletries, towels, and cleaning products in guest rooms and on carts, maintaining the appropriate inventory levels and guest comfort
• Handle and use cleaning chemicals and refill cleaning supplies according to safety guidelines
• Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Supervisor
• Demonstrate a professional and positive presentation to guests and colleagues and be well groomed
• Laundry duties may be required
• Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

• Previous experience as a housekeeper or similar role is preferred
• Provide a clear Criminal Record Screening Certificate
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment
• Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks
• Good physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks and move/lift objects up to 30lbs, when necessary
• Ability to handle difficult situations with patience and professionalism
• Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and work well under pressure
• Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, weekdays, evenings, and holidays
