Job summary

Northwood is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper to join our Halifax team. The role involves cleaning duties, supporting a safe working environment, and assisting with laundry operations in a long-term care setting.

Qualified candidates will have at least two years in housekeeping in LTC/acute care, ability to lift heavy items, and the ability to work well with staff and residents. Immediate start and full-time hours offered.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and follow instructions.
• Ability to lift/push/pull heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
• Previous laundry experience preferred.
• Regular attendance per corporate standard.
• Two years in housekeeping in LTC/acute care required.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning in assigned areas.
• Transport garbage and recyclables using large carts.
• Maintain floors and carpets per procedures and techniques.
• Operate washers/dryers per formulas and manufacturer instructions.
• Assist with laundry tasks: folding, untangling, pressing, and distribution of linen.
• Clean and maintain linen/laundry facilities and equipment.
• Follow safe chemical handling procedures and use PPE as MSDS directs.
• Keep work areas clean, orderly, and well-maintained.
• Complete special cleaning and setup tasks as assigned.
• Move offices/desks/furniture as requested by supervisors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper to join our Halifax team!

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Housekeeper performs cleaning duties while helping to support and provide a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of Grade X or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions.
• Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs).
• Good personal hygiene.
• Previous laundry experience.
• Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard.
• Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents.
• Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment.
• Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors.

Responsibilities:

• Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas.
• Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts.
• Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques.
• Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer's instructions.
• Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry.
• Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms.
• Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area.
• Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor.
• Complete specific set-ups for special functions.
• Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hours of work: 60 Hours Biweekly (6 Hour shifts)
