Overview

Toor Hotel – part of JDV by Hyatt, a luxury boutique hotel in Downtown Toronto, is seeking a Hotel Controller to oversee the accounting operations, ensure compliance, and support the property’s financial health.

Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable
  • Issue timely, accurate invoices per account specifications with complete supporting documentation.
  • Conduct regular collection calls and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly collection status reports.
  • Accurately apply payments based on remittance advice.
  • Reconcile daily cash and make deposits.
  • Oversee petty cash and floats (in coordination with team members).
  • Ensure proper management of gratuities.
  • Collaborate with designated staff for banking duties.
Cash Handling
  • Reconcile daily cash and make deposits.

Income Audit
  • Review and balance Daily Revenue Reports (DRRs).
  • Audit all adjustments for accuracy and legitimacy.
  • Ensure completeness and distribution of daily reports.
  • Verify credit card reconciliations and F&B revenue postings.
  • Monitor the guest ledger and assist in resolving billing discrepancies.
Chargeback Management
  • Respond promptly to chargeback retrieval requests with complete documentation.
  • Implement best practices to reduce chargebacks in accordance with credit card company guidelines.
Month-End Closing
  • Ensure timely inventory completion and F&B credits.
  • Compile and submit all required month-end reports to Head Office.
  • Support the Corporate Office with financial statement preparation.
Payroll Administration
  • Verify and reconcile timecards daily using the Advance Tracker system.
  • Produce daily and weekly labour cost reports, flagging any discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate department and position coding for payroll functions.
  • Maintain organized documentation for new hires, terminations, and leaves of absence.
Other Duties
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager or their designate.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in hotel accounting or hospitality finance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Opera, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with payroll systems and labour tracking tools is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of hotel systems, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Must have current legal authorization to work in Canada.
