Job summary

SAIT's School of Hospitality and Tourism invites applications for a two-year Young Professionals Program in Highwood Kitchen & Bar. This full-time opportunity delivers frontline restaurant service experience while integrating applied learning in a leading hospitality environment.

You will work under the Restaurant Operations Outlet Supervisor, delivering guest experiences, supporting events, and coaching students, with time in a fast-paced campus venue designed for hands-on professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Hospitality, Culinary, Tourism, or related post‑secondary diploma preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years service experience in a hospitality environment.
  • Must possess current Proserve Certification; Foodsafe or equivalent is a plus.
  • WSET Level 1 or equivalent wine education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional food and beverage experiences; exceed guest expectations.
  • Support reservations, guest communications, seating strategies, and service execution.
  • Assist with event setup, service, and operations for weddings, corporate events, and special functions.
  • Act as Student Ambassador, coaching and modeling professional hospitality standards.

Launch your hospitality career with our Young Professionals Program! This two-year, full-time opportunity is designed for emerging hospitality professionals eager to build their expertise in one of Canada's leading hospitality learning environments. Working in Highwood Kitchen & Bar, you'll gain hands-on experience while collaborating with industry leaders, faculty, students, and partners.

Reporting to the Restaurant Operations Outlet Supervisor (or Academic Chair), you'll deliver exceptional guest experiences, support special events, and contribute to a dynamic live-learning environment. Beyond restaurant service, you'll model industry-leading hospitality standards, help support student learning through coaching and demonstration, and gain valuable exposure to restaurant operations, events, and hospitality leadership.

This role offers a unique blend of commercial restaurant experience and applied education, providing an accelerated pathway for professional growth.

*Please note work schedules are developed several weeks in advance and may include a combination of five-day work weeks and compressed work schedules (e.g., four 10-hour shifts), depending on operational requirements. Evening and weekend work is required to support restaurant operations and events.

How you'll contribute
Restaurant Service & Operations
  • Deliver exceptional food and beverage experiences that exceed guest expectations.
  • Model professional hospitality standards and contribute to seamless daily operations.
  • Support reservations, guest communications, seating strategies, and service execution.
  • Assist with POS transactions, cash handling, inventory activities, and maintaining a polished dining environment.
Student Learning & Professional Role Modelling
  • Demonstrate industry‑leading service standards and professionalism for students.
  • Support student learning through coaching, encouragement, and hands‑on demonstrations.
  • Foster student confidence in guest interactions within a live service environment.
  • Collaborate with faculty and supervisors to create positive, engaging learning experiences.
Events & Hospitality Support
  • Support the setup, service, and execution of weddings, corporate events, and special functions.
  • Deliver outstanding guest experiences across a variety of hospitality events.
  • Assist with event logistics, operations, and venue coordination.
  • Provide operational support across multiple hospitality venues as needed.
Student Ambassador & Professional Development
  • Participate in student engagement activities, orientations, tours, and hospitality showcases.
  • Take part in leadership, service excellence, and Train-the‑Trainer development opportunities.
  • Continuously build hospitality, coaching, and leadership skills through feedback and learning.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while supporting a culture of hospitality and lifelong learning.
What you bring
  • Diploma in Hospitality, Culinary, Tourism, or related post‑secondary diploma is preferred
  • Minimum of 1-2 years service experience in a hospitality environment
  • Experience in fine dining or upscale hospitality would be considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
  • Must possess current Proserve Certification
  • Foodsafe certification or equivalent would be considered an asset
  • Valid First Aid Certification is preferred
  • WSET Level 1 Award in Wines (or equivalent wine education) is preferred
