Job Description

The Hospital Donation Physician plays a vital leadership role in supporting and advancing organ and tissue donation as an integrated part of high-quality end-of-life care.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-chair the hospital’s organ and tissue donation committee
• Promote and integrate donation best practices into standard end-of-life care
• Provide education on mandatory physician responsibilities under the Gift of Life Act
• Collaborate with hospital leadership to align donation policies and practices
• Advocate for necessary resources and identify barriers to donation
• Analyze and communicate performance metrics to drive continuous improvement
• Work with medical leads to establish and evaluate goals for referral, identification, and family engagement processes
• Participate in national donation physician education and annual conferences

Qualifications

• Licensed and practicing physician in Ontario, in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience
• Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; specialization in Critical Care Medicine preferred
• Actively practicing at a hospital site; critical care affiliation preferred
• Strong communication and relationship management skills
• Experience or familiarity with organ and tissue donation processes in Ontario is an asset.
