Job summary

Canada Packers is seeking a Hog Barn Manager to oversee a 4-barn nursery site, reporting to the Manager, Hog Production. You will lead by example, coach staff, recruit, train, and manage production targets with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years in a swine production role.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Computer knowledge is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to train and coach employees, work in a team, and manage multitasking.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example to provide effective leadership, coaching and training to all employees under their direction
  • Recruitment, selection and orientation of employees
  • Training employees on an ongoing basis through Pork Avenue Training and on-the-job training, SOP updates, OHS and HR matters
  • Workforce planning to evaluate staffing and performance against targets
  • Evaluate and manage employee performance
  • Create an environment where employees are motivated to achieve targets
  • Reporting on variances in purchasing and developing action plans to avoid shortages or excess
  • Implement CPC Quality Assurance, Food Safety and Animal Welfare policies
  • Oversee Environment and Sustainability initiatives on site
  • Maintain safe working environment and comply with OHS program
  • Maintain site by implementing routine maintenance
  • Accurate payroll record keeping and attendance tracking
  • Strategic decision making and prioritization with Team Leads
  • Identify mechanical issues and propose solutions to maximize equipment performance
  • Collaborate with Manager/Hog Production to meet production and financial targets
  • Review data reporting for efficiency
  • Work in all production areas as required
  • Maintain inventory levels and purchasing
  • Attend Hog Barn Manager/Operations/Health and Safety meetings
