Job summary

Canada Packers is seeking an Animal Care Technician to join a hands-on team in Poplarfield, MB. You will help ensure the health and well-being of pigs in a practical, safety-first environment.

This full-time role includes feeding, daily barn operations, sanitation, and basic maintenance, with rotating weekend shifts and alarm response. Starting wage is $19.00 per hour, with benefits and opportunities for growth within a values-driven workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Operate in the barn daily under supervision of the Manager
  • Push, pull, bend, lift up to 25 kg, and walk throughout shifts
  • Feeding and caring for pigs and maintaining herd health
  • Maintain clean, safe environments and assist with sanitation tasks
  • Manage door charts, inventory trackers, and ordering feed/medication
  • Follow health, safety policies and SOPs for humane animal treatment

About this opportunity:

Location: Interlake Swine Breeders Sow (Poplarfield, MB)
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours/week)
Salary: Starting wage from $19.00 per hour.
Schedule: Rotating shifts that include weekends, holidays, and occasional alarm response.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the Manager, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day operations in the barn. This includes a variety of physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting (up to 25kg), and continuous walking.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Feeding and providing general care for pigs.
  • Maintaining herd health and clean and safe environment for pigs.
  • Pressure washing and preparing rooms for animal entry.
  • Performing minor maintenance and sanitation tasks.
  • Completing clerical duties such as maintaining door charts, inventory trackers, and ordering feed and medication.
  • Following all health and safety policies and adhering to Canada Packers’ SOPs for humane animal treatment.
Skills & Experience:

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Proof of eligibility may be requested during the recruitment process.

  • Commitment to wearing proper PPE and following safety protocols.
  • Availability for weekend, holiday, and alarm shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to a rural location.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Alignment with Canada Packers’ Leadership Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Experience in hog production is an asset.
