Job summary

Volker Stevin is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator to support highway upkeep and safety. The role reports to the Foreman and emphasizes safety, teamwork, and project accountability, with duties in outdoor environments and potential night shifts.

You’ll contribute to traffic control, site maintenance, and equipment care, while adhering to QA/QC standards and provincial regulations for highway maintenance and hazard assessments.

Qualifications

  • Promote safety culture and maintain a productive work environment.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation and basic maintenance is an asset.
  • Willingness to work on-call and night shifts when required.
  • Snowplow operation experience (50+ hours) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote safety culture and maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards.
  • Maintain maintenance facilities, logs, and safety records.
  • Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones.
  • Inspect and service company equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
  • Follow safety, QA/QC, and environmental regulations.
  • Work outdoors in varied weather, including extreme conditions.
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as needed to support projects.

Reporting to the Foreman, the Highway Maintenance Worker Operator plays a key role in maintaining highways, ensuring the functionality and safety of roadways.

How You’ll Add Value
  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Ensure proper signage, traffic control measures, and emergency response for weather events, accidents, and wildlife hazards
  • Maintain well-stocked maintenance facilities and complete necessary documentation, including logs, reports, and safety records
  • Safely transport hazardous materials and manage traffic in high-volume work zones and emergency situations
  • Maintain, service, and inspect company equipment, vehicles, and facilities, ensuring proper care and security
  • Follow labour laws, company policies, safety regulations, and environmental compliance, while applying QA/QC standards for highway maintenance, road safety, and hazard assessments
  • Perform in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
  • Operate additional heavy equipment as required to support project needs
What You Bring
  • Valid Class 3 or 1 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Experience in operating and performing minor maintenance on light, medium, and heavy equipment is considered an asset
  • 50+ hours of experience of snowplow operation is preferred
  • Be able to work on call and perform on night shifts when needed

Note: Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing will be required.
