Overview

• Operate specific vehicles used for project work in their field of specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) following safety guidelines.

Main Responsibilities

We seek reliable individuals responsible for the daily operations of the highway maintenance team. As a highway maintenance operator, you will operate and maintain equipment used for daily operations, and perform non-equipment tasks such as setting up traffic accommodations, flagging, and installing signs, guardrails, and delineators. The role combines equipment operation with physical labor to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

• Participate in and apply AHSL safety practices, including wearing Personal Protective Equipment.
• Prepare for work: arrive fit for duty, on time, and ready with necessary tools.
• Perform work safely and efficiently under supervisor’s guidance.
• Maintain equipment and vehicles, including cleaning, minor repairs, and notifying supervisors of issues, following environmental guidelines.

Skills

• High school diploma or GED is an asset.
• Valid driver’s license (Class 3 or 1 with Air Brakes) with a recent 5-year abstract and reliable transportation.
• Experience in heavy equipment operation (e.g., snowplows, loaders, graders, gravel trucks) is an asset.
• Road maintenance construction experience is an asset.
• Ability to work long shifts (up to 12 hours), including night shifts, and be on call for winter activities.
• Willingness to work outdoors in various conditions and overtime when required.
• Team player with good communication skills in English.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
• Ability to pass pre-employment fitness and drug/alcohol tests.
