Job summary

The Manitoba Government is seeking a Drafting and Permit Technician for the Highway Regional Operations Branch in Steinbach, MB. The role focuses on preparing permit applications, producing CAD drawings, and providing field and administrative support.

You will respond to inquiries, review and process permits, maintain records, assist with data collection, ensure compliance with standards, and mentor junior staff while upholding safety and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Civil Technologist Diploma or Civil Technician Certificate; equivalent combinations may be considered.
  • Experience with computer aided design and drafting software; MicroStation experience is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with internal and external contacts and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent programs.
  • Experience with roadway construction inspection and/or preliminary/roadway construction survey.
  • Knowledge of basic survey practices.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare permit applications and produce technical drawings.
  • Provide field and administrative support; respond to inquiries and process permits.
  • Review and process permit applications; maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with field data collection and ensure compliance with departmental standards.
  • Provide occasional technical guidance and training to junior staff; emphasize safety and accuracy.
