High School Math & Science Tutor

Motivated by mathematics? Sharp with science? Excited by equations in both fields? Eager to help students succeed in math and science?

Gain valuable teaching experience! Oxford Learning Burlington South is currently seeking part-time Tutors/Teachers for a role in our learning centre. This position is perfect for anyone who loves working with students, enjoys numbers and equations, and is passionate about helping others build their skills in these areas.

Tutors/Teachers at Oxford Learning do not have to lesson plan before class, as all lessons are pre-planned. Applicants will be fully trained in our proprietary philosophy and methods.

Position Requirements

All Teachers/Tutors at Oxford Learning Burlington South work during after-school and evening hours. Our teaching hours are Monday to Thursday 3pm-8pm and Saturday mornings 9am-12pm. Three, four, and five-hour shifts are scheduled within our teaching hours.

This role is in-person. You must be able to commute to this location. This is not an online position. Relocation packages are not available.

Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory.

We encourage you to apply if you have the majority of the following requirements:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree or similar certification in a relevant field
• Teaching certification an asset
• Fourth-year university students with extensive tutoring experience and current teacher candidates will be considered
• Good knowledge of the current Grades 9-12 math and science curriculum, particularly Grade 11 and 12 Math, Physics, and Chemistry

Experience:

• Some experience teaching/tutoring at a Grade 9 to 12 (or equivalent) level
• Strong English written and oral communication skills
• Strong math skills and ability to guide students’ understanding
• Ability to multitask and balance working with up to three students at a time

Responsibilities:

You will work directly with students and have the following responsibilities:

• Teaching up to 3 students at a time at different levels
• Teaching in-person
• Following the Oxford Learning methodologies and philosophies
• Filling in post-lesson notes
• Completing daily student communication updates
• Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times
• The tutor/teacher supports students with varying needs, abilities and grade levels
• A high level of flexibility is required as well as knowledge of behaviour management strategies, exceptional attention to detail and great multitasking. It is a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary Range: $18 - $20 / hour

Schedule:

• Our teaching hours are Monday to Thursday, 3pm-8pm, and Saturday mornings 9am-12pm
• Additional hours may become available
