Job summary

Backline Outsourcing is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality dialysis care to patients with kidney conditions in a hospital setting. The role focuses on patient-centered care, safety, and effective treatment delivery.

You will work with nephrologists and the healthcare team, monitor patients during dialysis, administer medications, and educate patients and families about kidney disease, nutrition, and self-care.

Qualifications

• Current RN registration in Ontario (CNO) in good standing.
• BLS certification is required.
• Experience in dialysis or nephrology care is preferred.
• CNephC is a plus but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Assess and provide care for patients with renal conditions.
• Prepare patients for hemodialysis and other renal therapies.
• Monitor and manage dialysis treatments per protocols.
• Track vital signs, fluid balance and treatment response.
• Identify and respond to dialysis-related complications.
• Administer medications as prescribed.
• Document comprehensive nursing assessments and patient care.
• Monitor vascular access for infection signs.
• Educate patients and families on kidney disease, dialysis, nutrition, fluids, and self-care.
• Collaborate with nephrologists, physicians, dietitians, and dialysis staff.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient records.
• Follow infection control and safety procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients receiving dialysis and treatment for kidney-related conditions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering safe and effective renal care, monitoring patients throughout dialysis treatment, administering medications as prescribed, and collaborating with nephrologists and other members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and provide nursing care to patients with renal and nephrological conditions.
• Prepare patients for hemodialysis and other renal replacement therapies.
• Initiate, monitor, and terminate dialysis treatments in accordance with established clinical protocols.
• Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, treatment response, and overall patient condition throughout treatment.
• Identify and respond appropriately to complications or adverse reactions during dialysis.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Perform and document comprehensive nursing assessments and patient care activities.
• Monitor vascular access sites and identify signs of infection or other complications.
• Provide patients and families with education regarding kidney disease, dialysis, medications, nutrition, fluid restrictions, and self-care.
• Collaborate with nephrologists, physicians, dietitians, social workers, dialysis technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient records.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures and applicable workplace safety standards.
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with professional, organizational, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN). Or ability to become licensed.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Nursing education and clinical experience in dialysis, nephrology, renal care.
• Previous hemodialysis experience is strongly preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment and respond appropriately to changing patient conditions.
• Recent renal nursing experience

• Experience caring for complex patients, particularly dialysis patients
• Strong nursing assessment/care-planning skills
• Ability to recognize abnormal patient responses
• Strong communication/interprofessional skills
• Nephrology Certification (CNephC) is preferred, not mandatory.
