Job summary

Brandt Group of Companies seeks a Lead Hand at our Barrie Construction & Forestry location to coordinate and direct the workload of the Service department for maximum efficiency and quality repair work.

You will advise on technician skills, participate in safety meetings, and may assume Shop Foreman duties in their absence while supporting reconditioning of equipment and delivery readiness.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy-duty service technician.
  • Journeyman certificate required.
  • Ability to lead others and coordinate workloads.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Class 1 driver's license is an asset; forklift experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the assignment of jobs and work areas to Service Department employees according to their skill and knowledge.
  • Assist in the appraisal of repair orders and may participate in repairs, and review orders for accuracy and completeness.
  • Directs and assists technicians and apprentices in diagnosing machine problems.
  • Inspects and repairs all special tools; recommends new tooling as required.
  • Advises Shop Foreman or Service Manager of customer complaints.
  • Assists in coordinating and conducting quarterly safety meetings.
  • May fill Shop Foreman’s role in their absence.
  • May arrange for and participate in reconditioning of used equipment and setup of new equipment.
  • May approve the release of equipment for delivery to customer.

Overview

Brandt is currently seeking a Lead Hand for our Barrie Construction & Forestry location. This position is responsible for coordinating and directing the workload of the Service department for maximum efficiency and productivity while providing quality repair work; advises makes recommendations to Shop Foreman and Service Manager regarding technician skills and training needed.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • May assist in providing performance feedback for service technicians and staff to the Service Manager

  • Other duties as assigned


What We Look For


  • Ability to work multiple shift patterns

  • Ability to lead others

  • Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, and be able to present to groups

  • Ability to use standard desktop application

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

  • 5+ years’ experience as a heavy duty service technician

  • Journeyman certificate required

  • Class 1 driver’s license considered an asset

  • Forklift license preferred
