Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. in Alberta's Fort Hills region is hiring multiple Heavy Equipment Operator roles at a fly-in fly-out site near Fort McMurray. You will operate ultra-class mining equipment on a 12-hour shift schedule and contribute to safe, efficient production.

The position requires a safety mindset, valid license, and experience with excavators, shovels, dump trucks or dozers. FIFO from Calgary/Edmonton or Fort McMurray bus transport options apply.

Qualifications

• Two years experience operating heavy equipment in open pit mining.
• High School Diploma or GED or 10 years of relevant work experience.
• Valid driver’s license and a 2-year clean driving record.
• Proven safety mindset.
• Ability to concentrate and maintain focus for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Follow operating standards and procedures.
• Operate haul trucks, shovels, backhoes, dozers, and/or graders per standards.
• Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and risk assessments.
• Train and mentor others.
• Report repairs, incidents and near misses to maintenance and supervisors.
• Participate in continuous improvement programs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Two years experience operating cable or hydraulic shovels, excavators, dozers, graders or haul trucks in an open pit mine or experience in tailing & drainage
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) or 10 years of relevant work experience
• Valid driver’s license and a 2-year clean driving record
• Proven safety mindset
• The ability to concentrate and maintain focus for long periods of time

Responsibilities:

• Consistently follow our operating standards and procedures
• Operate various makes and models of haul trucks, shovels, backhoes, dozers, and/or graders in adherence to our standards and procedures
• Complete walk-arounds, safety checks and field level risk assessments and ensure the heavy equipment is running properly and respectfully intervene when necessary
• Train and mentor others
• Report any necessary repairs to the maintenance team or supervisors and report all incidents, damage and near misses immediately
• Participate in and drive continuous improvement programs

Location and other Key details:

• You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site,locatedin Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
• This is a Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) camp-based position; you will FIFO from a Suncor hub location: Calgary or Edmonton or bus in from Fort McMurray (relocation to a hub will not be provided)
• The shift schedule is a seven days on /seven days off rotation (seven days on, seven days off, seven nights on, seven nights off; 12-hour shifts)
• This position has been identified as safety sensitive
