The Heavy Equipment Operator plays a crucial role in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure, responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery safely and efficiently. The role requires ensuring all operations comply with safety regulations and project specifications, emphasizing precision, attention to detail, and adherence to safety protocols to contribute to the project's success.

Your Day-to-day Will Look Like
  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, rollers, loaders, skid steers, and rock trucks following safety practices and procedures.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections and maintenance checks on equipment, reporting any defects or repairs needed to the supervisor.
  • Complete daily hazard assessments and identify controls.
  • Follow proper start-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Collaborate with ground personnel and other operators to ensure safe and efficient task completion.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings and role-specific training.
  • Assist in site preparation, including clearing, excavation, grading, and backfilling as per project needs.
  • Communicate effectively with the team to coordinate operations and minimize disruptions.
Qualifications

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Assets include:
    • GPS & Grade Control experience
    • Ground Disturbance Level 2 certification
    • Rigging skills
    • First Aid certification
Technical Skills
  • Operate equipment with precision, efficiency, and safety.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on machinery.
  • Maintain awareness of blind spots and spatial relationships.
  • Understand load stability and machine limitations.
  • Read and interpret site layout, grading plans, and excavation requirements.
  • Work around utilities (buried and overhead).

  • Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and supervision.
  • Ability to stay focused and productive under pressure.
