Job summary

City of Kitchener is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator reporting to the Supervisor of Operations. You will be part of the Operations team, contributing to winter maintenance, snow removal, and construction projects.

The role requires a Grade 12 diploma, valid DZ license, experience with rubber-tired backhoe and loader, and a commitment to safety and reliable attendance. Shift work may be required in winter.

Overview

Reporting to Supervisor of Operations, the Heavy Equipment Operator will work as a collaborative member of the Operations team, contributing to a supportive and innovative work environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate large heavy equipment, including rubber tire backhoe, loader , dozer, grader, and hydraulic excavator ), to perform excavation, construction and snow removal work.
• Perform daily maintenance circle checks on all pieces of equipment prior to operation and follow all pre-trip inspections guidelines.
• Maintain an awareness of surroundings at all times, including location of other staff members and underground/overhead utilities to ensure safety of self, other staff, the public, and private property
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

• Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.

Experience

• Ability to successfully complete required progression criteria as it relates to this job title.

Additional Requirements

• Valid MTO DZ class driver's license in good standing.
• Competent in the use of a rubber-tired backhoe and loader (subject to assessment as necessary).
• Shift work may be required for winter maintenance activities.
• Available for winter call outs as required.
• Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
