POSITION SUMMARY:
The Heavy Equipment Operator oversees seasonal crews, grounds and trails upkeep, snow removal, and fleet maintenance. This role supports the YMCA of the Rockies, a mission-based family and group conference and retreat center serving over 225,000 visitors annually.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Minimum of two years' experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
- Operate hand and power tools safely, using appropriate protective equipment.
- Plow snow during winter, including weekends, early mornings, late evenings, and holidays.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Work independently and be self-directed.
- Responsibly purchase parts for repairs.
- Perform and record daily safety and maintenance checks.
- Maintain equipment per manufacturer recommendations.
- Experience with operation and routine maintenance of various heavy and light equipment and vehicles.
- Work long hours operating equipment.
- Pay close attention to detail and complete tasks thoroughly.
- Read blueprints and sketches, produce plans, and map utilities.
- Follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and comply with YMCA driving policies.
- Meet criminal background check standards.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of welding; ability to weld preferred.
- Attention to detail and thoroughness.
- On-call availability at least one night per week if living on-site.
- Promote a positive, cooperative, problem-solving environment.
- Effective communication with team members and management.
- Assist in auto shop and grounds maintenance as needed.
- Plan and prioritize projects efficiently.
- Possess or obtain CDL.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, and training skills.
- Experience in ground maintenance in a resort setting.
- Knowledge of gardening, weed control, mowing, and sprinkler systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must meet physical demands such as working on ladders, scaffolding, roofs, crawl spaces, and attics; standing all day with bending and overhead work; occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds); and working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
