We are looking for competent and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to provide mechanical expertise to the Company’s business. The successful candidates will be determined by their experience and attitude toward working in a fast-paced environment. A minimum of 5 years of mechanical experience with heavy equipment is required for this position; formal education or journeyperson certification would be an asset. Ultimately, we are seeking team players with an undeterred drive as a fit with our corporate culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide some idea of the tasks you may be performing, a list of responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Check excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers and other heavy construction equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  2. Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required.
  3. Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using hand and power tools.
  4. Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
  5. Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
  6. Service attachments and working tools such as buckets, blades, winches and booms.
  7. May perform repair work on heavy trucks.
  8. May attach components and adjust new equipment.
  9. Maintain service records and preventative maintenance for all equipment.

REQUIREMENTS

Requirements and qualifications for this position are a combination of skills and attitude:

  1. Completion of a three- to five-year apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience and industry courses in heavy equipment repair is usually required to be eligible for trade certification.
  2. Agricultural equipment technician trade certification is available, but voluntary, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
  3. Heavy-duty equipment technician trade certification is compulsory in Quebec (only in the construction industry) and Alberta and available, but voluntary, in all other provinces and the territories.
  4. Completion of secondary school and training courses or a vocational program is usually required.
  5. Red Seal endorsement is also available to qualified heavy duty equipment technicians and agricultural equipment technicians upon successful completion of the interprovincial Red Seal examination.
  6. Legally able to work in Canada.
