Job summary

Matrix Camps and Logistics is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic for Winter Ice Road remote camps in Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on surface fleet equipment, diagnose faults, and troubleshoot using CAT ET and CAT SIS diagnostics to ensure production-ready assets.

Applicants should have Red Seal, 3–5 years mining equipment experience, and strong hydraulics/electrical knowledge.

Qualifications

• Red Seal / Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic.
• 3–5 years mining equipment care and maintenance experience.
• Demonstrated experience maintaining surface fleet equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proficient reading wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics and service manuals.
• CAT ET and CAT SIS proficiency.
• Safety training as required by site (WHMIS, LOTO, confined space).
• Experience in remote/northern, cold-weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on surface fleet equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
• Troubleshoot electronic and control system issues using manufacturer diagnostics (CAT ET, CAT SIS).
• Maintain and troubleshoot diesel powertrain components and hydraulic systems.
• Complete inspections and work orders with clear documentation.
• Follow service manuals and ensure repairs meet safety and operational requirements.
• Respond to breakdowns and support planned shutdowns under production timelines.
• Work in accordance with site safety procedures (LOTO, confined space where applicable).
• Participate in failure analysis / root cause troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Heavy Duty Mechanic - Winter Ice Road (Remote Camps)

Location: Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut
Schedule: 3-weeks on followed by 3-weeks off

Matrix is seeking strong and motivated Heavy Duty Mechanics to join our maintenance team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for keeping our surface fleet operating safely, reliably, and ready for production every shift.

We’re looking for an experienced surface mechanic with demonstrated competency maintaining equipment with loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, SnowCats, Haul trucks and light/heavy duty trucks, with strong working knowledge of CAT systems, including CAT ET and SIS. Experience working in the North, including cold-weather operations, is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on surface fleet equipment

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults (as applicable to fleet)

• Troubleshoot electronic and control system issues using manufacturer diagnostics, including:

  • CAT ET
  • CAT SIS (as applicable)

• Maintain and troubleshoot diesel powertrain components, hydraulic systems, and related assemblies

• Complete inspections and work orders with accurate, clear documentation

• Follow service manual procedures and ensure repairs meet safety and operational requirements

• Respond to breakdowns and support planned shutdowns under production timelines

• Conduct work in accordance with all site safety procedures (LOTO, confined space where applicable, etc.)

• Participate in failure analysis / root cause troubleshooting and continuous improvement

Requirements (Must-Have)

• 3–5 years mining equipment care and maintenance experience (minimum)

• Demonstrated experience maintaining surface fleet equipment

• Strong working knowledge with:

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Mechanical systems
  • Electrical systems (12V/24V/480V where applicable)
  • Diesel powertrain components

• Proficient in reading and applying:

  • Wiring diagrams
  • Hydraulic schematics
  • Manufacturer service manuals

• CAT ET and CAT SIS proficiency

• Valid safety training/certifications as required by the site (e.g., WHMIS, LOTO, confined space where applicable)

• Experience working in remote and northern conditions / cold temperatures

• Valid driver’s license (if required by the location)
