Job summary

ConeTec is seeking a seasoned Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair complex drilling equipment across challenging environments. Bring 5+ years of experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and high-pressure pumps to ensure reliable performance.

You will work with a safety-focused team, train apprentices, and travel to project sites as required. A Journeyman license and Red Seal are preferred; a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with industrial heavy equipment including hydraulic equipment, diesel engines and compressors.
  • Licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Journeyman) status required.
  • Interprovincial trade qualifications in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics (Red Seal) preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspect and test drill units, diesel compressors, hydraulic support equipment and pumps.
  • Diagnose faults using computerized testing equipment to determine repair scope.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair major breakdowns; troubleshoot and diagnose.
  • Mentor apprentices and work with the team to meet maintenance goals.
  • Service attachments and emission control systems.
  • Follow safety procedures and report incidents to management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel and exhaust systems, breaks, clutches, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems and lubrication systems

  • Inspect and test to detect faults and malfunctions in drill units, diesel compressors, hydraulic support equipment, high pressure water pumps

  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required

  • Perform duties that range from routine preventative maintenance to repairing major breakdowns, including troubleshooting and diagnostics

  • Contributing to the development of apprentices and working as part of a team to accomplish maintenance goals and targets.

  • Service attachments and working tools

  • Verify and repair emission control systems

Professional Experience / Qualifications

  • 5 + years of experience with industrial heavy equipment including hydraulic equipment, diesel engines and compressors, high-pressure water pumps, drill units, diesel trucks, crawlers, and pumps

  • Ability to diligently organize work, make decisions, and set priorities

  • Valid driver's license

  • Previous experience working on drilling equipment is an asset.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Must be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision.

  • Must enjoy working outdoors and travelling for extended periods of time.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be a licensed Heavy Duty Mechanic (Journeyman).

  • Interprovincial trade qualifications in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics (Red Seal Certification) preferred.
