Job summary

Pursuit is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to maintain and repair motorcoaches, heavy equipment, and 21 Ice Explorers at the Columbia Icefield. You’ll ensure mechanical fitness and safety as a core value, while supporting a team in a busy, outdoor mountain environment.

Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs, with opportunities to mentor apprentices and contribute to process improvements in a dynamic, hospitality-driven setting.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta (or inter-provincial) Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyman certification.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnostics on Detroit Diesel, CAT, MTU and Allison engines/transmissions.
  • Familiar with MCI & Prevost highway coaches.
  • Class 1, 2 or 3 driver’s license with airbrake (Q) endorsement an asset.
  • Ability to supply own tools up to ¾” and impact drives.
  • Ability to think outside the box with a positive attitude, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mature, energetic, dependable and self-motivated.
  • Be prepared for outdoor work in all mountain weather conditions and environments.
  • Consent to criminal record check and grooming/appearance standards.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Safety 1st!
  • Ensure to follow adequate and proper safety procedures when performing any duties
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Diagnose equipment problems and determine repairs as needed
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Service attachments and working tools
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work area and assist with cleaning duties in working environment
  • Maintain daily record of all works orders, part orders and other administrative tasks
  • Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease downtime and improve processes
  • Assist in training apprentice mechanics in the trade
  • Support colleagues and co-workers in their duties.
  • Act as a coach and subject matter expert when it comes to everything vehicles
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Alberta (or inter-provincial) Heavy Duty Mechanic Journeyman certification
  • Also accepting resumes for 2nd, 3rd or 4th year apprentice
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnostics on Detroit Diesel, CAT, MTU and Allison engines/transmissions

  • The weather changes quickly at the Columbia Icefield
  • Must adhere to the Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy
  • Must meet the Organization grooming and appearance standards
  • To honour our commitment to be “Always Honest” all employees must consent to a criminal record check
  • Standard First-Aid or higher an asset
