PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As a member of CPKC's Work Equipment team performing preventative, corrective maintenance and repairs on company systems including mechanical, electrical and hydraulic machinery/equipment.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintaining mechanical repair and maintenance of roadway equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Repair, inspect and test equipment such as production tie and rail machines, spikers, spike pullers, ballast regulators, speed swings, loaders and skid steers and backhoes, tie cranes, tie inserters, etc.
  • Using a variety of manual, electric, and hydraulic tools, as well as welders and cutting torches, to perform/verify maintenance and repairs
  • Investigate and locate equipment problems and take corrective action minimizing the impact on crew production
  • Plan work and co-ordinate in a team environment
  • Prepare and submit equipment maintenance records, time sheets etc.
  • 80-90% travel requirement with travel accommodation and meal allowance provided

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Heavy-Duty Mechanic/Technician's Journeyman's certificate OR a registered and active 2nd/3rd year apprentice in Heavy-Duty Mechanics is a plus
  • Acquire certification in CPKC's safety rules
  • Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient in communication (ability to provide clear and concise instructions/directions)
  • An emphasis on safety is essential for all employees. This is a high-risk environment - working around heavy moving equipment.
