Qualifications

  • 421A HDM Apprentice Level 2 or 3 (Heavy Duty Mechanic) or higher.
  • 2–4 years of experience on heavy‑duty mobile equipment (construction/mining/industrial).
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, brakes and transmissions.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment (OBD II scanners, diagnostics software, multimeters, hydraulic testers).
  • Able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to assemble mechanical and hydraulic components.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on non-conformances and corrective actions.

POSITION TITLE: Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
LOCATION: North Bay, Ontario
Salary: $24 to $35 hourly

About the Position

TheMechanicalAssembler is responsible for assembling a wide variety of mechanical components to engineering specifications. This includes checking, testing, and inspecting subassemblies and finished products to ensure proper quality and product specifications in compliance with all MEMCO policies and procedures. This position requires the following proficiencies:

  1. Read and interpret Engineering drawings/schematics to build and install various mechanical and hydraulic assemblies, circuits and systems.
  2. Assemble, fit, and install prefabricated and purchased parts to form subassemblies or finished products per mechanical assembly drawings, or as directed by Assembly Supervisor.
  3. Assemble hydraulic systems (including hose routing) and manufacture hose/fittings per schematic drawings/specifications, or as directed by Assembly Supervisor.
  4. Use of various pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical tools in compliance with applicable safety standards and best practices.
  5. Operate material handling devices such as; overhead crane and gantry crane in compliance with applicable safety standards and best practices. Material handling includes safe rigging and transportation of various loads.
  6. Ensure quality and functionality of various assemblies & finished products.
  7. Perform minor adjustments and repairs to assemblies and finished product as specified.
  8. Work with Manufacturing Engineering as required to communicate details of non-conformances found during the shift, and to help formulate corrective action taken.
  9. Adopt and practice good housekeeping & 5S principles.
  10. Ability to quickly grasp Mechanical and Hydraulic assembly concepts.
  11. Abide by all applicable regulatory & company-specific safety standards.
  12. Abide by ISO 9001 Quality Management System and associated procedures.
  13. Contribute to continual improvement for safety, quality, product, production, and work environment.
  14. Willing to cross-train in other departments as needed on a temporary basis.
About You

The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • 421A HDM Apprentice Level 2 or 3 (Heavy Duty Mechanic) or higher
  • 2-4 years of experience working on heavy-duty mobile equipment, including construction, mining, and industrial machinery.
  • Strong experience with diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, brake systems, and transmissions.
  • Ability to work with diagnostic tools and equipment (e.g., OBD II scanners, diagnostics software, multimeters, hydraulic testers).
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license, and ability to operate heavy-duty vehicles and machinery.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills (an asset).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction or mining machinery maintenance (e.g., excavators, bulldozers, cranes).
  • Experience with hydraulic/electrical integration and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with equipment telematics systems and remote diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of OEM service bulletins and equipment-specific repair manuals.
