Job summary

TO Live’s Facilities Department is hiring a part-time Heavy-Duty Cleaner to support Meridian Hall. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, duties include general cleaning, snow removal, gardening, and setting up and dismantling tables and chairs for events.

This is an hourly, part-time unionized position under TO Live’s collective bargaining agreement with SEIU. Work will occur at Meridian Hall in Toronto as part of TO Live’s multi-arts operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in housekeeping and maintenance duties.
  • Experience operating heavy-duty cleaning machinery.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Willing to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Observes safety policy and wears PPE where required.
  • Able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, and wax hallways, floors, and stairs including auditorium floors, lobby floors, restroom floors, booth floors, etc.
  • Maintains carpets (vacuums, removes scraps, dirt, gum, heavy debris and other refuse, shampoos as necessary)
  • Strip and refinish hard floors with mopping system or equipment as required.
  • Cleans seats when necessary.
  • Snow removal, gardening, and exterior grounds cleaning.
  • Assist in setting up rooms for theatre users.
  • Cleans theatre and theatre property including washrooms, green rooms, recreational areas, drinking fountains, office areas, storerooms, and hallways.
  • Wash windows, interior walls, and ceilings.
  • Replenishes washroom supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.).
  • Removes trash from theatre and theatre property and disposes of trash in commercial garbage dumpster or compactor.
  • Inserts new plastic garbage bags in trash cans.
  • Remove waste/recycling from drop points to bins or compactor.
  • Cleans and organizes the cleaning closets.
  • Keeps cleaning equipment clean and in good working order.
  • Other facility cleaning, duties, and responsibilities as assigned or required.

Job description

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the duties include, but are not limited to, general cleaning and maintenance tasks, snow removal, gardening, and setting up and dismantling tables and chairs for special events.

This is an hourly (part-time) unionized position under TO Live’s collective bargaining agreement with SEIU working at Meridian Hall.

Key Responsibilities

  • Removes trash from theatre and theatre property and disposes of trash in commercial garbage dumpster or compactor.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Practical experience in housekeeping and maintenance duties.
  • Experience operating heavy-duty cleaning machinery.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Watches for safety or security issues (trip hazards, lighting, suspicious persons, etc.) and reports to management.
  • Observe TO Live’s Health and Safety policy; and wear PPE where required and necessary.
  • The candidates must be able to lift and carry up to fifty pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Flexibility in hours and schedules, including work on nights, statutory holidays, and weekends as required.
  • Work will be part-time and scheduled to suit TO Live’s business needs.
