Winnipeg School Division is seeking a Heating Plant Controls technician to install and maintain fuel-fired heating equipment, controls, and related systems across the Division. The role includes preventive maintenance of hot water and steam systems, and collaboration with the Maintenance Supervisor and school staff.

Successful candidates will have a Journeyman certificate in Steamfitting/Refrigeration/Plumber with a Gas Fitter license, plus several years of hands-on experience and strong

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate in Steamfitting, Refrigeration or Plumber and a valid A Gas Fitter license.
  • Four years of related experience, including reading blueprints and estimating labour/materials and costs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is an asset; Manitoba 5F driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle are required.

Responsibilities

  • Installs and maintains fuel-fired heating equipment, controls, and related equipment within the division.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on hot water and steam heating systems.
  • Informs Supervisor of progress and provides labour/materials and delivery schedule estimates for projects.
  • Forwards safety concerns as required
  • Communicates with school staff and Building Department personnel

HEATING PLANT CONTROLS

SERVICE BUILDING

1.0 FTE - Permanent

Under the supervision and direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Heating Plant Controls person is responsible for installing and maintaining fuel fired heating equipment, controlsand related heating equipment within the Division; performs preventive maintenance to hotwater and steam heating systems; providing assistance to the Maintenance Supervisor; andother various duties.

Responsibilities:
  • Installs and maintains fuel fired heating equipment, controls and related heating equipment with the Division
  • Performs preventive maintenance to hot water and steam heating systems
  • Informs Supervisor of work progress and provides estimates for labour, materials and delivery schedule costs for various projects
  • Forwards safety concerns as required
  • Communication with clients (school staff) and other Building Department staff
Qualifications:
  • Complete secondary education with a Journeyman’s Steamfitter, Refrigeration or Plumber certificate and a valid “A” Gas Fitter license is required
  • Minimum Class 4 Power Engineer Certificate is considered an asset
  • A minimum of four years of related experience, including experience in reading and analyzing blueprints, drawings and specifications, and determining labour, material and supply costs is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office considered an asset
  • A valid Manitoba 5F class driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office considered an asset
