Job summary

Winnipeg Regional Health Authority at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg is seeking a Plant Maintenance professional to maintain and repair boilers, motors, turbines and related equipment to supply steam, chilled water, compressed air and emergency power. The role reports to the Manager of Plant Maintenance and focuses on safe, reliable operation of the site's energy systems.

Requirements include Manitoba High School standards and a valid Manitoba Third Class Power Engineer's Certificate;

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years' experience in a steam plant.
  • Manitoba Standards high school education is required.
  • Manitoba Third Class Power Engineer's Certificate is required.
  • Licences such as Instrument Technician, Millwright, Pipefitter or Electrician are assets.
  • Must follow safe work procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Chief Engineer with coordination of preventative maintenance and demand maintenance.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager/Chief Engineer and in accordance with the requirements of the Provincial Licensing Standard, the incumbent performs the following:

  • Maintains and repairs high pressure boilers, refrigeration compressors, air compressors, diesel engines and generators, electric motors, pumps, turbines, and all the related equipment necessary to supply and deliver steam, chilled water, compressed air, emergency power, and fire-main-loop high pressure water to meet the requirements of the Centre.
  • Assists the Chief Engineer with coordination of preventative maintenance and demand maintenance.
  • Duty to the safe and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Performs assigned maintenance work and provides assistance to support the maintenance of site as required.
Experience
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a steam plant.
  • Experience with instrumentation and industrial controls preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • In accordance with the Regulations under the Power Engineers Act, a valid and current Manitoba Third Class Power Engineer's Certificate required.
  • Instrument Technician, Millwright, Pipefitter, or Electrician licence an asset.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Must follow safe work procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Work area is subject to high temperature, humidity and noise.
  • Must take extreme caution in performance of tasks as exposed to high pressure steam piping, rotating equipment and high voltages.
  • Lifting heavy equipment and parts.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
