Job summary

Paladin Security is hiring a Casual Healthcare Security Officer for the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley–Goose Bay, NL. You will patrol, monitor alarms, and respond to incidents to keep patients, staff, and visitors safe.

You will use de-escalation techniques, assist with directions, and document activities while collaborating with healthcare teams and emergency services as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Fluency in English, verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.
• Flexibility to work casual, as-needed shifts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular foot patrols across hospital grounds and areas.

Overview

Healthcare environments require a balance of safety, empathy, and clear communication. As a Casual Healthcare Security Officer at the Labrador Health Centre, you will help maintain a safe, welcoming, and peaceful space for patients, healthcare workers, and visitors. This role exists to ensure that daily medical operations run smoothly and securely in a 25-bed regional hospital setting.

This casual position offers a flexible schedule and an opportunity to make a direct, positive impact in the Happy Valley–Goose Bay community. Whether you are providing helpful directions to a visitor or using de-escalation skills during a challenging situation, your presence ensures the health center remains a safe place for care.

Pay and Schedule

Hourly Rate: $23.69 per hour (overtime pay applies after 40 hours per week)

Schedule: Casual / As Needed (shift schedules vary based on operational requirements)

What You Will Do

Success in this role means being a trusted, approachable presence while staying vigilant and ready to respond when needed. You will support daily facility operations by:

• Conducting regular foot patrols across hospital grounds, hallways, parking areas, and restricted units.
• Monitoring surveillance cameras and alarm systems to proactively spot safety risks.
• Responding quickly and calmly to security alarms, facility emergencies, and incident calls.
• Using verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution techniques to handle tense situations with patience and respect.
• Assisting patients and visitors with directions and general inquiries in a polite, helpful manner.
• Enforcing hospital policies respectfully and documenting activities through clear, accurate incident reports.
• Working alongside healthcare staff and local emergency services during coordinated safety responses.

Position Requirements

Must-Have Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
• Valid First Aid and CPR Level C certification from a CSA-approved provider.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to clear a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Health clearance requirements, including Tuberculosis (TB) screening, proof of primary childhood immunizations, and an adult Tdap immunization (with 10-year boosters).
• Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) certifications. Note: If you do not currently hold these certifications, Paladin Security provides the required training prior to onboarding.
• Flexibility to work casual, as-needed shifts.

• Prior experience in security, customer service, law enforcement, or healthcare settings.
