Job summary

City of Thunder Bay is seeking a Food Service Worker to prepare and serve meals to residents, staff, and patrons with attention to portion control and presentation. You will ensure sanitary handling, proper storage, and safe operation of all equipment, while maintaining a clean work area.

The role requires team collaboration, effective communication, and a genuine interest in meeting the needs of the elderly.

Qualifications

• Grade ten education or equivalent.
• Current Safe Food Handling certification approved by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit; and completion of or enrollment in a food service worker training program approved at a college of applied arts and technology or a private college or otherwise meets Reg. 246/22 requirements.
• Has appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in institutional/health care/restaurant or hospitality food service.

Responsibilities

• Serve meals to residents, staff and patrons, maintaining quality, portion control and attractive presentation following best practices and therapeutic diets.
• Maintain sanitary food handling and correct storage of food materials.
• Operate all food service equipment including the cash register.
• Keep work areas and equipment clean.
• Follow safety procedures and report hazards and equipment defects.
• Assist in meals movement between kitchen and dining areas; wash dishes and utensils.
• Provide courteous customer service to residents, families, staff and visitors.
• Participate in meetings and in-house training; complete education as assigned.
• Participate in fire drills, evacuations and safety measures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
